1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world


Paul warned us against the deception which comes through demonic influence (1 Timothy 4:1). John also cautioned us to test the spirits and to distinguish the spirit of truth from the spirit of error (1 John 4:1-6). Satan's demonic forces are at work attempting to pollute your mind with lies in order to keep you from walking in the truth. Hannah Whitehall Smith wrote:

There are the voices of evil and deceiving spirits, who lie in wait to entrap every traveler entering these higher regions of spiritual life. . . . These spiritual enemies, whoever or whatever they may be, must necessarily communicate with us by means of our spiritual faculties, and their voices, as the voice of God, are an inward impression made upon our spirit. Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit may tell us by impressions what the will of God is concerning us, so also will these spiritual enemies tell us by impression what is their will concerning us, though not, of course, giving it their name" (Quoted from Martin Wells Knapp, Impressions , Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishing, Inc., 1984, pp. 14-15).

Due to the deceptive nature of his impressions, Satan's voice may not always be detected objectively. You need to pray in order to disassociate yourself from deceiving spirits.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I commit myself unreservedly to Your will. If I have been deceived in any way, I pray that You will open my eyes to the deception. I command in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ that all deceiving spirits depart from me, and I renounce and reject all counterfeit gifts (or any other spiritual phenomena). Lord, if it is from You, bless it and cause it to grow that Your body may be blessed and edified through it.

use the test He gave us

Don't forget those verses came with a specific test for us to use:

1 John 4:2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God

You would be surprised how many people trip over their tongues if you ask them this specific question.

Do you acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh?

Don't say who Jesus is...or why He came...just ask it as it was given to be asked. Almost without exception, the folks I expected to have trouble with this test (and a few I didn't !) replied with a rebuttal or another question

"What do you mean in the flesh?"

or

"Well yeah...but he was just a prophet..and and example..."

Or whatever.

It's a very useful test.

I see a red door, and I want to paint it black. I’m one of the things that goes “bump!” in the night. I’m a born Satanist. I’m a happy little blob of custard and you can’t nail me to any wall; in fact, I’d pull those nails out and aim them at you. Tell me how negative I am; tell me how I’m filled with hate. Firstly, necessarily, I love myself. I’m my own God, after all, and I put no Gods before Me. I’m uppermost in my mind; I always bring me flowers. Sometimes I realize I could have done something better; sometimes I make mistakes. It’s wonderful how I learn from these things; it’s exciting to have an opportunity to be an even better Me. Even when I deny myself something, withhold gratification, it’s always in order to enjoy something even more fulfilling and worthwhile down the road. This is why I can hate so purely, so irrevocably, anything that wastes my precious time, energy and attention.Along with Me, I love He Who Is Not Me, my husband. He is, for one thing, the consciousness in which I can see a wonderful reflection of my own God, myself. My cells respond to his pheromones, and being around him gives me a heightened feeling of happiness, contentment and well-being. The shape of his face is the dearest sight in the world to me. They light my days and bring me joy through their achievements and antics; they make the world a more interesting place, and only a Satanist knows what a gift that is. Sometimes they are close enough to share food or warmth or simply company; sometimes they are far away, voices on phone lines, words on a page. But they’re always in here, part of me, my folk. I cannot feel indifferent toward those who would distress my tribe. He who attacks them attacks Me; he who places obstacles in their way earns my ire, my enmity, my hate.
As a natural-born Satanist, I’m joyfully free of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic bias against non-human animals, and so have never questioned that what I feel and have felt for my pets is pure and simple love. I love them more than I love many people; I value their lives more highly. The Black Flame of Satan burns dark and soft in animals, at its purest and deepest. I bristle and chafe at the laws that give destructive, unwanted, horrid little children more rights than my dog has. She is my property, and I can only protect her as such. A product of a thousand generations of breeding for domestication, for compatibility with humans, she is nevertheless only a hair’s-breadth away from wild. As highly as I treasure her life, so deeply does my hate run for those who would be cruel to her. I bare my fangs at them. I love everything that belongs to me, all my stuff. I love my books, my music, my pretty china, my coffee machine, my raincoat, my old, soft green blouse. I hate anybody who would steal, destroy or disorder my precious stuff; why wouldn’t I? What value could such a creep have that would exceed that of my heavy stoneware mug, my perfect leather bag? Contingent on all of this, I love the world. It’s so beautiful, so perfect a setting for my God, Me. I love mountains, the sea, acres of trees without a single house, rows of houses all antique and charming, museums, fog, delicious nourishment, quiet afternoons, star-filled nights. I hate them. She can pretend she is so tough and smart and I bet she is cynical towards everything and treats people as objects, Actually, I feel sad for her.

I used to have a friend like that, no one even really likes him anymore, he forced people to hate him then he blames God for losing everything.

No, she was not a born Satanist, no more than you are a born Christian. I hear this from homosexuals as well, they were born that way. In fact being a Satanist myself for a few years before coming to Christ, I know they do not take anyone under the age of 18 into their congregation; sex and drugs are used during ceremonies. I can say that they do respect the young minds of children in that retrospect. She's full of hate and pride. I quoted this because Satan seems to be a light to many people, it's not until the veil is uncovered that one can see the truth through it.

wow cool Atonement! we need to talk some time in open chat. Unfortunately I don't quite understand your rather benign and placid understanding of Satanism. I too got involved with a cult, but after becoming a committed Christian. This coven followed the same path estblished by the druids after the Catholic church sought to eraticate them from Europe. When the driuds became scattered they formed into small groups and hid their activities. The group contained 4 to 6 members the minimum being 4, to call a worship circle honouring the spirits of the 4 directions and praised the 4 elemental realms their faith demanded. Its curious how this sounds like wicca. What is even more curious is how the destruction of druidism and the emergence of wicca seems similtanious. Before I explain this next statement, "Satan, or the icon focus of this religion, loathes all life with extreme prejudice". To worship this icon would be to honour the same focus of life. Your satanist, in the post is actually atypical for satanism. (oops, I explained the statement first). Oh well, to carry on. Over the last nearly 2000 years the religious systems most follow today have had only 1 focus, and that is to warp and twist the Ministry of Christ. This has tainted our understanding of the thought of Christianity, allowing it to be understood as a mere religion and not the lifestyle established by Jesus. Which was the example that we can live inside the Laws of God providing we follow exactly in Jesus' footsteps. Therefore, by tainting what was understood it became easier to accept the worship of satan as a certifiable religion, dispite the obvious ramifications.
This brings me back to my cult experience, there is no doubt in my mind that Jesus lead me to that path to learn of our common enemy, to learn how it operates. Once I did that, understanding how to use the coven's own power to destroy it was also obvious. The allure of the power and wealth also had no effect on me either, so I know that Jesus was with me right through my trip, not knowing He had a reason for me to know this.[This I will end here, it can be discussed another time in a specific thread on this, for those who what to know more(believe me you don't)/ the rest is just ritualistic detail]. A couple years after destroying that coven, I was approached by a local cop(a friend of mine and sister in Christ). Over coffee one night we discussed cult activity in and around the city I grew up in. Knowing my background and that I rescued street kids,The information I was given was that they were after one coven for sure, this coven was producing kids which they turned out as prostitutes. She gave me a couple of targets that they(the police) suspected as the ones calling them, with info on the cult. They wanted me to earn the confidence of those people to get close enough to help stop them. To shorten a much longer story, I agreed and we did bring the coven down. The point is Satanism as all cult, like religions have only 1 purpose, to taint our soul, warp our perception of God and Jesus and turn us against God/Jesus. The Gospels tell us this in many places the most obvious ones areMatthew 15:1>20 & Matthew 8:21>23. Ultimately our li'l Satanist with that attitude is typical of those who follow after evil.

First, I will say that I was actually apart of the Church of Satan which is better known as "LaVeyan Satanism" the Satanist does not worship Satan in the theistic sense; but plays a certain role as an adversary to spiritual creeds, espousing Randian, hedonism, Nietzschean and atheism. The term "LaVeyan Satanist" or symbolic 'Satanist' is referred by other Satanist to refer to supporters of the writings of 'Church of Satan' founder Anton Syandor LaVey. Careful use of the word 'Satanism' refers to a small religious group that's unrelated to any other kind of faith, and the members are free to satisfy their urges responsibly, they are kind to their friends and attack their enemies. LaVeyan Satanism is based on the writings of the Satanic Bible and Satanic Rituals of Anton Syandor LaVey

Second, there is "Theistic Satanism" also called Spiritual Satanism, contains several groups. Some groups consider themselves to be the true Satanists while other groups see reality as subjective and view issues such as "true & false" as the folly of zealots. One group that falls under the definition of 'Theistic Satanism' are called "reverse Christians'; this is sometimes used as a disparaging term by other theistic Satanists. Groups labeled "reverse Christian" are said to practice what Christians claim Satanist do, and worship what Christians consider to be the enemy of Christ and God. They base their concept of Satan on descriptions of him in the Bible. Theistic Satanist do not accept the Bible as depicting the true Satan to the same degree, they base it again on their concept on a personal spiritual experience.

Anyway, I don't mean to go off topic, but this is a good thread to talk about this subject because it shows the true light into Satanism, and people can be educated in this. It's great knowledge to know your enemy, so you know how to overcome them that try and deceive you with merely useless words

Coconut, thank you for your wise response, you are very correct we should gain knowledge on our Lord Jesus Christ and learn about the attributes of the Lord. But we are not to be deceived by the darts of the devil, we should teach ourselves how to overcome the devil and Eph 6:10-18 tells us how. That is by arming yourself each day using Scripture in this passage, so I'm not wrong, maybe I mis-worded how I was trying to explain it, but the truth still implies that we need to have the full armour of God on so we are not deceived..

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

This site is 100% talk Jesus not about satan. ~We know we are in the light with Jesus. Light and dark cannot be together. Satan is dark. We are not to dwell on him as he is under our feet. We listen to the voice of God and obey Him.

We just need to read the living active Word and put it into practice not being only hearers but doers too.

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
