Scripture is of no private interpretation

'How art thou fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
how art thou cut down to the ground,
which didst weaken the nations!'
(Isa 14:12)

Hello @lentz,

In my Bible's marginal notes, in relation to Isaiah 14:12 and the word, 'Lucifer', it says:-

'Lucifer=Morning-star.
Worshipped by the Assyrians as male at sunrise, female at sunset.
A name of Satan.'

See also, Lucifer - Wikipedia.

Thank you

Thanks. But maginal notes are placed there by someone other than the writer of the scriptures. Bring your bible to me and i will add some marginal notes.
God bless

You see, this is the pitfall of verse by verse anatomical analysis, it blinds you from seeing the bigger picture. If those were OT saints, why did they become so wicked that God had to wipe them all out with the Flood?
Now that is a direction i have failed to look in. Thanks so much

That was not necessary @lentz, it was sent to you in a spirit of friendship. I am aware that all things written by man must be judged by what is written in God's word,

Thank you

I did not mean to offend you Chris. Just my rough way of pointing out that whatever humans contribute is usually more or less just opinion. Like the ones we toss around on this platform.

This is where you've got it terribly wrong, man. I know what the bible says, I know what the commentary says, I know what my pastor says, I even know what the devil says through mainstream media. I come here to learn what you say. Opinion is one's understanding of the Scripture, and that matters. All Paul's epistles are his opinions, the entire book of Hebrew is an OT commentary, are you gonna dismiss all of those as "opinion"? Even the Lord himself, as a teenager, lingered three days in Jerusalem listerning to rabbis' "opinions" in the synagogue.

The biggest deception is the mentality of REDUCTIONISM. People slice and dice the whole Scripture into little fragments, and then turn to analyze each individual fragments out of context, and then they get lost. We need a narrative, God's overarching, all encompassing narrative throughout the whole bible, from Genesis to Revelation, from the Creation Week to the New Jerusalem, then you put any "opinion" you've heard in that narrative and see if it fits.

Mercy. Dont get a burr under your saddle.
No Pauls writings were given to him through devine inspiration. I am pointing out that when we bat all this stuff around,it could our opinion, not inspiration.
If it were we would all believe the same thing. No different denominations needed then huh?
I am sure you feel the Holy Spirit gave you your understanding. But then so does everyone else. Everyone cant be right. Not with such opposing views. Thats all i meant to say.

Understanding and interpretation is one thing, fulfillment and application is another. Most of the Scripture is not mysteries, puzzles and theories that need interpretation, but history, instruction and prophecy that need fulfillment, which is also known as TESTIMONY.

Still a person has to decide for him/herself which is which.
I agree in part and dont mean to sound agitant. I am really trying to learn, not provoke aguements.
But peoples understangs on how those prophecies will or even have been fulfilled differ. I dont want to wake up one day or stand in His presence and find out i was believing a lie.

Of course testimonies differ from person to person, otherwise there's no need for four canonical gospels. As long as they all point to the same Jesus who died for our sins, then it's fine.

What I meant is that personal understanding is not just dismissible opinion like white noise in the background, it matters to the Lord. Jesus once asked Peter, "who do people say I am?" Peter gave the report, "some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, or one of the prophets." "But who do YOU say that I am?" "You are the Messiah, son of the living God." Translate that into a modern context - you've learned about Jesus from the pulpit, you've seen the portrayal of him in movies, you've read him in historical documents, you've heard him in pop culture and cusses, but who do YOU say he is? Your answer to that, my friend, is your "private interpretation". If you really have the Holy Spirit in you, then the Holy Spirt will open your eyes to see the real Jesus amid all the fake ones.
