Should Christians smoke?

Okay thank you everyone:)

Thank you @Chad. Yes I agree theres loads of factors to consider not only smoking. But I was trying to address smoking as it is a problem to me with this person in my life who smokes.
Im glad to say I live in the country but know of friends in polluted Australian citys like Sydney and Adelaide who have no choice.

@B_A_C @Fragrant Grace yes. I agree with your points smoking is bad for the body and we shouldn't damage our bodies purposely
n
@Strypes
You said wow to the thread. I say wow to your multi posts
You sound just like the person I know who smokes. Lots of excuses and scriptures that don't really make sense to me.
And NO I am not a jw they are initials in my middle names janet wendy .And no I am here for help not to publically talk negativelyabout someone
But thanks for trying

@Listening Im sorry I don't really understand you

Thanks again great help :)

Matthew 15:10-11 (CJB)

10 Then he called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand this!
11 What makes a person unclean is not what goes into his mouth; rather, what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean!”

and here.....
Romans 14:23B
: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Obesity etc are only things done out of a lack of faith

My friend smokes heavily and says its okay

He smells of smoke in front of my children

But surely this is damaging to the body and not good to do

Any thoughts?

Nobody should smoke. But is it a sin? No more than any other dumb thing. I used to smoke and it was a dumb thing. LOL

Matthew 15:11 (CJB)

11 What makes a person unclean is not what goes into his mouth; rather, what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean!”

Going to this world's doctors and taking their drugs for your ailments also undermines Father God the Creator of all things. Wouldn't you say?
Are you suggesting that when I had my heart attack in February, I should not have gone to the ER? (I would be dead right now if I hadn't - I had to be shocked multiple times to re-start my heart)). Mind you, I credit my life and recovery completely and 100% to God. I felt His hand and His peace on me that night. I credit God not only for healing me, but for blessing the doctors with the wisdom they needed to treat me, and for giving them that calling. I do not see at all how this undermines God. Quite the opposite, it brings Him glory. I tell everyone that it is by the grace of God that I am alive.

IMHO, it is irresponsible to tell people not go to a doctor when needed.

I agree JohnP God did give us doctors too. Maybe only to tide us over till we can walk in total health. Those doctors saved my life too when I had a heart attack. Heart attack is never mine. I'll never claim ownership of that. :-)

I like that!

Yes, doctors are a gift from GOD in our fallen world and frail bodies. So is medicine (generally).

It never hurts to exercise faith instead of running to the doctors and medicine in non-emergency situations though.

He who shall save his life shall lose it, but he who shall lose his life, for my name sake, shall save it. We can not serve God and mammon. This world is mammon.

God uses a donkey to speak forth and forbid the madness of the prophet; God can use anything and anyone He chooses.

Smoking is a slap in God's face... using this world's doctors is a slap in God's face, as well; Do you not believe God created flesh out of the dirt of the earth and is able to keep it (you) in perfect working order?

All praise, glory and honor be to the MOST HIGH GOD. Amen

Hi @David holton ,
Welcome to T.J
I agree smoking won't send you to hell but it might get you to Heaven Before your Scheduled Time of Arrival.

Now on the other side.
Why Smoking can be seen as sin or something God does not like.

Sin Destroys His People
Smoking can destroy His People from a vast array of things.

God is AGAINST anything that harms or destroys His People.

No Sir I would not ever condemn you or think less of you because you smoke.

Blessings to you

It sure is. But it's his choice, even if it's a bad one.

1 Cor 3:17; If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

Still don't make smoking a sin it's an everyday habit I enjoy it and am not quitting I am not an evil person I just enjoy smoking I am still a christian

@Gabriel Kinson then you need to repent brother!
Don't you know that fried foods are no good for you? We like to have you around longer!

Just so everyone know. I'm not making light of smoking. It's bad for you and your body, and if you can. Stop from doing it. I'm a reformed smoker after over 30 years of doing it. Only through the Grace of God was I able to stop. It truly enslaves you, with a need/desire that can be consuming. Still, God will move you to quit. Just don't ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit when it's time to stop!!! And also remember that He'll also give you the strength/will to be able to do so.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
YBIC
