New King James Version! I've found it to be very reliable. Although, truthfully, the Holy Spirit is the greatest factor in being able to understand God's word. I just notice that in every version other than the New King James and King James, in 1 John 5:7, the part about the Father, Word, and Holy Spirit being One is completely omitted.

Now, I don't support only using King James Bibles, however I've noticed that it's strange that this scripture would be omitted from every single other bible when it's in the original Greek text.

They have caused divorces, church splits, etc.Those are the ones that are scary! And like to stay away from, cause they can really loose it! KJV is a nice bible. But the really TRUE Authorized Bible by a Monarch of England is the Bishop's Bible. Not the KJV. IF you do you research you will learn.... Just as I did.... why the Bishop's Bible is the TRUE Authorized Bible. Also do you realize that the KJV has been like revised over 100 times already? Did you know the originals had a "she" and a "he" version? Also included the Apocrypha! Also it the Preface to the KJV that marvelous piece of literature that explains a lot by the "makers" of the KJV. Did you know even they said to look at other translations and theirs had "errors?"

Oh, well that's good to know. I'm guessing it was just controversy then. My silly mind always seems to drive in the direction of "They added/took away that part to alter the original meaning!" I like many translations, but the version I read daily is the New Living Translation.

Cynics usually tell us that the King James Bible is Elizabethan English and --

'We don't speak like that any more.'

The fact is -- neither did those living in 1611. Shakespeare's plays, written during the same period, did not use the 'eth' and 'est' endings. Read the 'Preface to the KJV,' written before 1611 by the translators. It does not sound like the King James Bible. It says, "your very name," not 'thy very name.'

The KJV translators used 'thee,' 'ye,' 'thy,' 'thine,' and 'eth' and 'est' endings (on verbs) because these are the only way to show important grammatical and theological distinctions, clearly seen in the Greek and Hebrew text, and seen in other foreign vernacular Bibles. KJV English is Biblical English, not archaic English. It is much easier to learn than truly archaic koine Greek.

Removal of these 'est' and 'eth' endings takes the English Bible one step further away from the Greek and Hebrew Bible.

The marked difference in style between the text of the King James Bible and its preface verifies that it was not written in the style of the period but with precise words characteristic of the lawful document that the Bible is. It matches Greek, Hebrew and pure foreign Bibles which likewise have inflected endings ('est' for second person and 'eth' for third person). It uses many other means to accurately convey meaning without ambiguity.

New versions boast of their substitution of the word "you" for the so-called archaic "ye," "thou," and "thee," but do not notice that the KJV uses the word "you" 2,000 times for the plural objective case (e.g. "I tell you the truth"). It distinguishes "ye" (plural nominative), '"thou" (singular nominative) and "thee" (singular objective) when needed. By using those particular renderings, the KJV reader knows exactly to whom the word is referring. Other languages also have these fine distinctions (Greek, Spanish, French, etc.).

If Jesus walked into a room with a married couple and said, "Ye are of your father the devil," the husband could not say, "He is talking to you, dear," because "ye" is plural. In certain places in the Bible, such as Matthew 16 and other places, the singular and the plural become very important. In a recent United Bible Society newsletter for translators, a contributor recommended the KJV because of its preciseness in this regard. In Awe of Thy Word elaborates in great detail.

Would you rather learn facts about Buddha and Confucius than Jesus?

Would you like a bible that according to its own preface, is too difficult to read for children who are below junior high level?

Would you like a bible that typically uses twice as many words as the KJB?

Would you like a bible that completely omits Jehovah or Lucifer, or substitutes "the grave" or "the place of the dead" for "hell''?

Would you like a bible that changes "brothers" to "Christian friends" or "holy brethren" to "dear friends"?

Would you like a bible that teaches it is the quantity, not the object of your faith that determines your salvation? (i.e. Mat. 17:20 NLT "You don't have enough faith" should say "Because of your unbelief.")

Kenneth Taylor, its author, was among the growing number of new version editors who lost their ability to speak (see Time, July 1972). Now The Living Bible is also silenced.

A 2.5 million dollar budget is being used - not to print Bibles for third world countries - but to mount an advertising campaign to capture some of the 400 million dollars wealthy Americans spend annually on Bibles. The Living Bible has been given a make-over and re-titled The New Living Translation. It contains the same old errors everyone's known about for years - the veiled swearing in 1 Sam. 20:30, the unscriptural bathroom joke in 1 Kings 18:27, and the elimination of Old Testament prophecies concerning the Lord Jesus Christ (i.e. Zech. 13:6, Psalm 343:20 et al). Time magazine (Sept. 9, 1996) even dismisses this new translation as a joke saying, "The Diety in The New Living Translation sounds like a parent scolding a child who has just tracked mud into the kitchen."

(The NLT even suggests we all need the mark of the beast. Its footnote for Rev. 13:18 suggests that verse should say "the number of humanity" instead of "the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.")

God is the author of the bible and He used 40 people to write it.

I love the NLT---it is God's word in today's English. Holy Spirit speaks through it just as He speaks through any other translation. None of the accusations concerning any of the verses given hold up.

Note the above tactics. There is no documentation. When they cannot prove their case on the facts, they resort to attacking the messenger.

None of the accusations concerning any of the verses given hold up.

Same thing here - no documentation, just more tiny vagaries and fierce invectives.

Here's an even easier way for you to discern which Bible is the genuine article.

The mere fact that most bible translations are copyrighted proves the true motives of the Revision Committees of those particular translations (400+ and counting); To change God's Word!

"To be copyrightable, a derivative work must be different enough from the original to be regarded as a 'new work' or must contain a substantial amount of new material. Making minor changes or additions of little substance to a pre-existing work will not qualify the work as a new version for copyright purposes." --The Derivative Copyright Law (partial).

Did you read that? In order for a bible to be copyrighted, it must be "substantially different" from the original texts! No wonder there are so many different doctrines going around today. No wonder there are so many contradictions in bibles! No wonder copyrighted bibles are so different from one another and say completely different things! They must be substantially different from one another in order to be copyrighted! The copyrighted bible you have in your possession is not the Holy Scripture, it is a translation which is substantially different from the scripture!

Copyright: "The legal protection given to authors and artists to prevent reproduction of their work without their consent. The owner of a copyright has the exclusive right to print, reprint, publish, copy and sell the material covered by the copyright." The New Standard Encyclopedia, volume 3, page 565.

First of all, who is the "owner" of God's Word? Well obviously, the one who created it; God. Certainly, not mere man. So how can any man copyright God's Word? The answer is he can't and he doesn't, because man can only copyright "their own words," and not the words of another. Therefore, copyrighted bibles contain the words of man and not the words of God.

Secondly, did you know if you quote from, or copy from, or preach from, one of these copyrighted bibles, without the written permission of the "author" of that work, did you know you can be fined, imprisoned, and penalized for doing so? In other words, whoever owns the copyright to a bible is preventing you from repeating what is contained in that bible! Does mere man have the authority to prevent someone from sharing God's Word with others? No, he doesn't. But since copyrighted bibles contain the words of men, only some man's personal interpretation of the words of God, they can prevent others from using "their" bibles.

And think about this, if you have to get the bible "author's" permission, then obviously this work is "created" by some man who believes he himself is the "author" of this bible. He is basically saying, “Before you can preach God's Word, you must go through me and ask my permission!” This is basically what copyrighted bibles demand!

Look at any copyrighted bible for proof of this. Here is the copyright notice to the New International Version (the NIV Bible - © Copyright 1973, 1978, 1984):

"The NIV text may be quoted in any form (written, visual, electronic or audio), up to and inclusive of five hundred (500) verses without express written permission of the publisher, providing the verses do not amount to a complete book of the Bible nor do the verses quoted account for twenty-five percent (25%) or more of the total text of the work in which they are quoted."

In other words, we must ask permission from the NIV bible publishers to use more than 25% of any book of the bible, or more than 500 verses. The NIV bible is preventing you from preaching over 500 verses of their bible, and is also preventing you from repeating an entire book of the bible! For example, if I wanted to read the entire book of Jude (which contains only a total of 25 verses) to a congregation, I am forbidden to do so from the NIV bible!!! I will be persecuted if I do, because I would be quoting a "complete book" from their bible. The most I can quote from the book of Jude would be 25% of this book, which would mean I cannot read, print, or duplicate more than 6 verses from this book! I cannot read more than 25% of any book of their bible!

We must ask ourselves these questions, "Why are the publishers of copyrighted bibles threatening to persecute us if we quote from their bibles? Is this the character of someone who wants God's Word spread abroad to others? Or is this the character of someone who is preventing God's Word from being spread to others?"

How would you feel if some man said you could not preach God's Word unless you asked them for permission? Well, this is exactly what copyrighted bibles demand, on pain of being fined, imprisoned, and penalized for preaching from their bibles. So, why give power to the beast? Why use some man's bible if he is threatening you? Why not go to scripture instead, where you will receive blessings and not cursings. Why not use scripture instead, where you need not worry about being persecuted from some man who thinks he owns the words you are quoting from?

How serious of an offense can copyright infringement be? According to the Copyright Law itself, from Title 17, Chapter 12, of the U.S.Code, Section 1204, the criminal offenses and penalties of someone who violates a copyright shall be fined not more than $500,000 or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both, for the first offense; and shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned for not more than 10 years, or both, for any subsequent offense.

You might ask, "Why are bibles copyrighted?" The answer is because merchants want to make money, and the only way for them to make a buck off of God's Word is to substantially change it and pass it off as the real thing, so they can sell their merchandise. In addition, the reason why they demand that you ask them for permission to use their bibles is so they can make even more money off of you, because when you ask permission, you must either pay them money or advertise their book!

Hosea 12:7, "He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress."

Revelation 18:23, "...the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies...for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived."

FYI, readers should read "The NIV: The Making of a Contemporary Translation," 1986 THEMSELVES if they want to be Bereans. It is available from Zondervan Publishing House, 1415 Lake Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506 (ISBN: 0-310-24181-2).

Modern versions do contain a lot of God's Truth, but they are also mixed with man's opinions and personal interpretations. It is possible to understand the True meaning of God's Word through some modern versions, but it is a lot more difficult to do. For example, one can understand the meaning of certain words by reading verses in its context, and by comparing the use of those same words in other passages. So, even though words and meanings have been changed in bibles, it is possible to understand its true meaning, but it will take a lot more effort on the part of the reader.

I do use the King James bible, because it is not copyrighted. And it's New Testament is taken from the Majority Text Manuscripts.

The facts surrounding the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the simplicity of salvation, are found intact even in the grossest perversions of bibles. It must be remembered, though, that the scriptures are a weapon in the hands of the servants of God (Hebrews 4:12, Ephesians 6:17, 2 Timothy 3:16). It is also food that we may grow properly (I Peter 2:2, Hebrews 5:13-14). It is in these areas, and many others, that bibles are weakened and corrupted. In fact, the very verses given above are altered in many new bible versions, thus weakening scripture. It is, therefore, possible to get saved through bibles, but you will never be a threat to an adversary.

Hebrews 5:13-14, "For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."

If you flip on a religious TV station, for example, or walk into a church, you watch and listen to these guys expound on their theories of who God is, and all you're getting is the milk. You can't survive on milk. And if all you get is milk, you end up dying in the end, spiritually. This is why we fail to see the fruits of the spirit being manifest in people today; the love, the peace, the joy, and the other fruits of the spirit. If you look around the world today, there is no joy. The abundant life is gone. And it's all due to the fact that they haven't matured in the Word, they've stayed on the milk and have not eaten more solid food. If you keep someone on milk forever, they'll wind up dying on you. You have to move on to more solid food.

The same thing happens when you read from the Bible for instance. If you don't move on from its milk, and get into a more meatier substance, you will end up dying, your bones start to get soft, your muscles start to wither, you're no longer exercising.

A soldier is always out there exercising so that he may be ready and useful for battle. But if you're going to use inferior tools, or if you're not going to be fully exercised, or you're only going to go through the motions but never really do them, then all you're ending up with is a fat, lazy military who, when the order is given to march, they sit back and say, "Well, according to my interpretation of this passage of the order, it doesn't mean this", and so the order is never executed.

Then another order comes down. Now you've got a second order when the first order hasn't even been executed yet, because we've re-interpreted the first order. When the second order comes down, we re-interpret that, and that one doesn't get executed. And this is what we have today, many "soldiers of Christ" who do not exercise the His commands.

BTW, recently the owners and publishers of the corrupt NKJV (New King James Version), Thomas Nelson Publishers, have been bought out by Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp. and their subsidiary HarperCollins, publisher of the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey. Now Murdoch owns the NKJV and the printing rights to the NIV, through Zondervan, which Murdoch bough in 1988! A private equity firm, Kohlberg and Company, acquired majority ownership of Nelson in 2010, setting the stage for this most recent Murdoch buyout. Now, practically every bible published in the U.S is under the control of Murdoch, a purveyor of erotica and the Satanic Bible.

I actually looked up the verses in several translations and nothing is changed or lost in the NLT. So, your aversion to the version is simply preference. It's OK to have a preference, but to rip apart others for no reason, and having no real scholarship, is no more than a tempest in a teacup. to some people everything is corrupt, and in my opinion that is fear speaking.

We have nothing to fear when the author of the scriptures is living inside us.

Oh no---I have God's word. I do not live in fear that maybe the version I use is tainted, as God is in control of that. I use many versions--and they all dovetail together and wonderfully present all that God says. We are most fortunate people! Blessed! But the most important thing is that I have Jesus Himself, living in me and telling me what is true and what isn't. I trust Him.

The King James Bible is the word of God. New versions contain some of the word of God. As new versions replace the KJB in sales and use, it is no wonder people sense this void. Unsaved scholars have pointed out for years that the omissions in new versions are not wholesale. The doctrine is removed only fifty to eighty percent of the time. As long as the doctrine can be found somewhere in the bible, apostates claim that version is acceptable. This contention fails when tested by Scripture. The bible says that "a little leaven leaventh the whole lump" (1 Cor. 5:6). So, when there is an error one place, the poison destroys the entire version. The bible also says: "In the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established" (Matt. 18:16).

God made four gospels. A doctrine needs to be there several times to prove its authenticity. You cannot proof text when you have only one bible verse. If you were leaning on a table and someone removed one of the legs, it would be unstable. If your employer omitted fifteen days pay from your salary, protest would ensue, yet the NIV's fifteen-seventeen (depending on which copyrighted date) omitted verses do not raise an eyebrow. (Matt. 17:21; 18:11; 23:14; Mark 7:16; 9:44, 46; 11:26; 15:28; Luke 17:36; 23:17; John 5:4; Acts 8:37; 24:7; 28:29; Romans 16:24, just like the JW's NWT!) If you went outside and found that someone had stolen one of the tires from your car, you would strongly object. Why are some Christians reluctant to object when words and verses are removed from their bibles? Luke 12:34 says tellingly, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

I think that only those who see the bible as a textbook, and not as Job 23:12 says, "more than my necessary food," would approve of a bible like the NIV or NASB where there are sixty-four thousand missing words. Most of the people of the world today do not even have a whole bible, and so if new versions remove the doctrine in only one portion, that may be the only portion that these poor people have.

A well-known Christian often tells his story of bringing a suitcase of bibles into communist China. When he and his suitcase found their way to an underground house church, he was dismayed as he watched them tear the covers from his bibles and then tear the pages from the bindings. He was then told, to his surprise, that due to the scarcity of bibles, members could receive only one of the books of the bible, or several chapters of the bible. Within the confines of that one book, the member should find the essentials of the Christian faith to sustain him daily. God knows that we need a complete and balanced diet every day. We need 'three meals' and 'three chapters' of the bible every single day. Within those three chapters, we need to find all of the essentials of the faith: the deity of Christ, salvation by faith, and the comfort of the scriptures. The enemy knows that God's soldiers cannot oppose him strongly if they have spiritual food that has been depleted of many of its nutrients. Anyone who would contend that these new versions contain the truths of the faith, somewhere in them, does not really understand that the bible is more than our necessary food. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God" (Luke 4:4). Is that in your NIV? We need every word!

Yes, all the main versions dovetail together. It is a blessing to have them all. I am sad you do not see that. Your fear is almost palpable in your words, lawrenceb, and I am sorry you look only to self to know what truth is, and what error is. There are differences in translations depending on which manuscripts are being used. There is no spiritual danger in reading any of them. Holy Spirit works through them all.

What is dangerous is to spread the lie that the KJV is the only version anyone should use---as well as the poisonous lie that it is the only word of God! People who do not speak English use versions translated in their own tongue, and where there are words foreign to their culture or experience, other words have been substituted---carefully and with guidance by Holy Spirit, such as a different word for snow for people to whom snow is a foreign thing, in the verses found here:

If I can simplify this for the moment, it goes like this: God told us his word is pure, inspired and preserved, so the relevant question is this: Is what you have in your hands now the genuine article (i.e. do you have the scriptures)?

Regarding the "dialects" question, Spanish folks, for example, have the inspired word of God in their vernacular ("common") Bibles. Likewise, the Portuguese, German, French, etc. This has always been God's pattern: give the COMMON MAN the COMMON BIBLE in the COMMON LANGUAGE of the day to do one thing -- evangelize the world.

God has preserved His words through the broad flow of history. People today say, "How dare you King James-only people! You just want to force people to translate the KJV into other languages!" But look at the NIV: That perversion is being translated all over the world, and it is STILL the NIV! The NV in Spanish, for example, is not very different at all from the NIV. The Dutch, French and other versions are still NIVs! And the NIV is most definitely an English Bible.

So the question is not "Shall we translate the Bible from English into other languages?" The question is "Which Bible shall we use to translate God's words into the various languages of the world?" I know the King James Bible is God's preserved words in English. So my choice is made. May God help the translators of the world to use God's words, and not a perversion that will only bring them into judgment before our Almighty God.

Also, give one Bible verse that states that man-made lexicons and critical editions are an authority equal with or above the Holy Bible. One will be sufficient. There are no totally reliable Greek and Hebrew lexicons or dictionaries. Those who bind themselves to any one printed, digital, or antiquarian edition are working in chains of their own forging. Why struggle? All lexicons and grammars which might interpret these editions are corrupt; the Holy Bible (KJB) is God's chosen words for the English speaker.

Again, God's pattern has always been the same. He has always given the COMMON MAN the COMMON BIBLE written in the COMMON LANGUAGE of the day to do one thing: evangelize the world. Today, that vernacular Bible is the uncopyrighted, free discourse King James Bible.

Pullease...I am far from spiritually blind, and ignorant, and I know the truth of the word of God and I don't have to live in fear about what I am reading. Holy Spirit lets me know what end is up. I am glad I don't have to pay attention to fear-mongers. You a e instilling fear in people to hear the truth of the word from any other version but your own pet version. There is no need for that.

For many people today who are seeking God, the KJV presents a barrier to understanding---for the common man! My use of the modern language versions is a great help when leading the lost and the unchurched to Christ. The KJV is gobbledygook to many today and in fact, will drive people away because if its archaic language. The word needs to be relevant to the people of today, and the Church of Jesus Christ is being enlarged by the use of the modern versions, praise God!

If you prefer the KJV, go ahead, but don't preach to anyone that they cannot hear from God reading any other version, because IT IS JUST NOT TRUE! Enjoy your own chains, but my God is a whole lot bigger than you think!
