Hello. Friendly atheist here. I come to the forums ‘cuz I’m interested in discussing religious matters and they just don’t generally come up when hanging out with my in-person Christian friends. I am definitely NOT here to insult or to (de)convert. I may say things to which some take offense. Please know, none is intended. But I will be frank and honest about my own positions.

Anyway, I am eager to know how some faithful people respond to a question that came to mind:

What would you say to an android who wanted to be a Christian?

Thanks!

Greetings Friendly Kirby D. P.

I've been thinking of you quite a lot recently, even praying too.
What would you say to an android who wanted to be a Christian?
My first thought was, ditch the android and go LINUX! More freedom, less bondage to contracts and agreements that nearly everyone breaks. You won't get punished by the law with Linux. Also, you can do as you will with it and nobody is going to get upset or come after you for meddling with their proprietary software. You make Linux what you want it to be. If you break it, it's your problem and you take responsibility to fix it but no big brother's to beam you up for transgressing their holy copy rights. No viruses, malware, etc, etc. Is that the sort of liberty you were thinking of?

Mind you, Android is a handy little system but you can nuke it (if you want) and put Linux on your phone or tablet or what ever.
Most don't know that Linux is sort of the original that everyone else copied from! Unix. Android is pseudo-Linux, in my opinion. you can only go so far with an Android until you have to decide if you will go google and use the play store (account needed... gotcha!) or.. stay 'crippled' by the inbuilt creepy google-is-controlling-your-device-anyway daemons. You can get open source apps for your device but you are limited. It's a copy of the real thing.

So do you want the real McCoy or a replica or imitation?
Becoming a Christian comes down to your preference, your choice, your deciding if you'd prefer a better operating system... or not. God has already put everything in place in His Son for all who will believe. I think you know the rest?

Your Question?
What would you say to an android who wanted to be a Christian? The Android must be put to death [it is dead in sin anyway] and become a new creation, in Christ Jesus.
There is no other way

Bless you ....><>

I would say "Take me to your programmer.", and "you'd be welcome to sit in on the conversation as well".

We all are seeking/denying our Creator in one way or another.

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

HA!

Hey, Br. Bear. Good to see you again.

Points all well taken.

To put a bit more “flesh” on the situation, here is a robot that, in every way, appears human, including what IT thinks is its own sense of self awareness, except it is an acknowledged manufactured machine.

I’ll complicate this by adding the android is a member of, and participates in, your community. It lives in a nearby house. It brings food to the homecoming potluck tailgate. It works as a cashier at your grocery store and, when it sees something weird going on at your house when you are out of town, it call the police who come and prevent a burglary.

Then, one day, the android says to you, “I don’t want my life to end when my body breaks down. I want to live beyond that and, much more than that, I want to share in the rewards of my life of good works. I believe in God and his son Jesus. I want to love and worship them and partake in their grace and glory when my earthly time is done. What should I do?”

It’s Pinocchio’s situation. Except, for these purposes, at least at first blush, the Blue Fairy cannot (or does not yet know how) to make him a “real” boy.

By the way, if there’s anyone who could ever get the chair for using LINUX, it’s me.

Kirby

Greetings Kirby,

being a machine, the simple answer is, "suck eggs, to the scrap yard or recycle depot".

If you would like to discuss the potential of a case like this for real living humans, not humanoids, I see that you have put together quite an interesting chess game.

Even if we take the cryptic and consider the implications, one would have to start with the condition of being a manufactured machine. Of course, the manufactured can not sin as such as it is not it's own but merely a product of another greater then itself, and therefore everything it does is pre configured and of no fault or failing of it's own, even any malfunction that may manifest. So where does that leave us? Without sin? In that case no amount of rooting or rebooting will make any difference to the 'innocence' of the product of the workmanship of the creator of the machine. So, how and where do we go from there?

what IT thinks is its own sense of self awareness
is this what IT thinks or what it thinks? If it is what IT thinks then the children of disobedience (the products of) will think likewise. Children of Light know differently. If it is what it thinks it is believing what many do. Self awareness is governed by and limited by a) environmental factors (all and every angle and definition included) and b) the carnal un-regenerated mind. Would you like Scripture for this, Kirby?

Next, the 'complicated' part....
I’ll complicate this by adding...
Sounds to me like what many in the world would say and even those who say they believe.

I don’t want my life to end when my body breaks down.I want to live beyond that, -Nuff's a fairy. {fair enough}
and, much more than that -we need to learn humility at the foot of the Cross and know that forgiveness (Mercy and Grace) is much more than enough.
I want to share in the rewards of my life of good works. -Doesn't everyone? But the only reward available is through God's work seen at the Cross of Christ in the shed Blood of the Lamb. Android or not, our good works are not the Door.
I believe in God and his son Jesus. -We believe what we hear. If indeed you did believe, the rest, pre and pro would not come into the equation.
I want to love and worship them and partake in their grace and glory when my earthly time is done. -You need to enter in now, for when your earthly time is done,.... (again, no amount of programming or micro chip will ever be able to partake)
What should I do? -If you have heard the Gospel, repent and be baptised, calling upon the name of the Lord.

Kirby, do not be seduced into any mistaken identity regarding your present condition. While you have breath in you, you are able to decide if you wish to remain android or as i said before, exchange the operating system, the hardware must be replaced by a new heart. You can not do this, you must present yourself to the Manufacturer and Giver of Life. Your new heart will have an Eternal Life-time Workmanship guarantee and no warranty is needed.

The software needs this command [Kirby, you probably understand the workings and similarities between apt-get zypper and yum so I'll use apt-get] You will need to use apt-get purge once you have the correct repository in place together with a complete kernel replacement! [apt-get dist-upgrade]

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:the_Word/ppa - See John 1:1
sudo apt-get install the_Word
sudo apt-get update

password for SUDO: I_Believe

Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and your house.
Acts 16:31

Bless you ....><>

Yea Kirby thankfully you are not an android and God has made you in his image and wants you to be saved.

He will upgrade your heart and you wont ever break down.

See, the difference is if you baptise an android in water it will probably fizzle and explode. But if you are baptised your sins will be washed away and you can have a new life.

I dont know too much about androids but if God was a techie he would figure out a way to save his favourites he has made and being the maker It seems to me anything you make yourself is precious to you.

Androids can't be saved -- they have no soul, no spirit or anything but a pile of diodes, semiconductors and a man-made AI system. They're no substitute for a real human. Of course, perhaps there's an Android Jesus somewhere, but he's not here. They'll need to be translated to that galaxy far far away where the Endor and Hoth are...I think thats where Android Jesus lives. I'm sure there's a forum there that can better address this sort of question... Perhaps entitled "TalkAndroidJesus.com".. I'm sure it exists, though my network connection is waaaaay too slow to find out.

Who can be saved and who cannot?
Revelation 22:17
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

What would I say to and android? 'Soyanara buddy'

Honest answer? 'I don't know'.

There are a couple of places in the Bible that I might turn to in a conversation with an android.

Romans 8, all creation groans waiting to be released from its bondage to decay; Revelation 21:5 'Behold I am making all things new.

Maybe room for an android in God's plan for the whole of creation.

There may be a place in Gods plan for an android....As a paper weight or a doorstop...
If you're not sure who, or what is included in Gods promise of salvation, I would suggest that you dig into your Book and do an in depth study..No doubt you've looked at it before now but sometimes we need a good review.
Salvation is for humans only...though I believe that God will bring your favorite pet to heaven to live with you if you want. But salvation is not for you pet because your pet did not sin.

[for me anyway] the only viewpoint is the Word of God, for it is written that if we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: and again Let God be true, but every man a liar.
As for who cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven:
"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:20)
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
"Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3)
"No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62)
"Remember Lot's wife." (Luke 17:32)

As for whosoever is seeking to become a true follower of the Lord Jesus Christ must repent and deny their own will and carry their own load:
"Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (Matthew 4:17)
"If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." (Matthew 16:24)

Of course we may include:
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)

But many take lightly the sobering matter of what it is to actually confess (own), and to actually believe: they do not count the cost, because many do not even know that there is one.

The two Bible passages I referred to very clearly indicate that God's purpose is to redeem the whole created order

Who can be saved.
Any Man born of woman.
Man being Human being.

Anything else is just insulting to the cross and Jesus.
Blessings

What would you say to an android who wanted to be a Christian?
You cannot compare an android to a human. We have spirits and are made in the likeness of God.

So, what would I say to a blank slate? Well firstly, we need to understand that a Christian is an adopted by God, son and daughter Eph 1:5.

We cannot make ourselves Christians. God has to adopt us. We don't come to God on our terms and conditions, we come to Him on His. His terms are:

Matt 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Who can and cannot be saved.
All can be saved. Not all choose to be saved. John 3:19 says it best: 'And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil'.

It is an evil person that don't believe in God did has programmed it.
