'( For until the law sin was in the world:Hi God's truth
Hope you are well today.
There is this
For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:17
How do you interpret this?
.. but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
.... Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses,
...... even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression,
........ who is the figure of Him that was to come.
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift.
.. For if through the offence of one many be dead,
.... much more the grace of God,
...... and the gift by grace,
........ which is by one man, Jesus Christ,
......... hath abounded unto many.
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift:
.. for the judgment was by one to condemnation,
.... but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
...... For if by one man's offence death reigned by one;
........ much more
.......... they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness
............ shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. )
Hi @Lavenderfields,
The verses you gave me are part of a parenthesis, and so I thought I should quote the whole of it.
* They which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness, which is imputed to us by God, do reign in life by Christ Jesus our Beloved Lord. Sin no longer has dominion over us, for we have passed from death into life: So death no longer reigns for the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:56). We are told to reckon ourselves to be dead indeed unto sin but alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:11). For we have died with Christ, been buried, quickened and raised with Christ (by faith), and now walk in newness of life (in Him) before the Father (Romans 6:4). This is a faith position, but we walk by faith and not by sight, yes? This is how we reign in life, by reckoning by faith on the finished work of Christ
* This verse is one that I have struggled with too, but this is the way I understand it. Perhaps someone else may be able to explain it better than this, or put me right if I am wrong, but this is what I believe it means. I hope I have made myself clear, for I see through a glass darkly.
I hope too that the heat is not affecting you my friend.
Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
our Lord and Head.
Now risen and glorified
Chris
