The baptism of the Holy Spirit can come at different times as shown in the scripture. We see John the Baptist already filled with the Holy Spirit before birth in his mother's womb.
Not the same thing as the promise from the Father at our salvation when we are born again of the Spirit after Jesus had ascended to the Father.
John the Baptist was beheaded and was in Paradise for when Jesus had died on the cross to went there to see him along with that thief on the cross that had asked Him to remember him..
For the apostles the baptism of the Holy Spirit game after Jesus death after Jesus rose to heaven and they had been waiting.
That was when his disciples were saved at Pentecost as born again of the Spirit as the church was born that day.
The Gentiles that were baptized into the family with the water baptism received both at the same time.
There is no scripture teaching that is wat water baptism accomplished when that baptism with the Holy Ghost is how we become the sons of God. John 1:12-13
I have personally been present when a person received the water baptism and then the Lord telling me to baptize this person with the Holy Spirit afterwards
We should always test the spirits and everything we hear because when what we hear goes against scripture, then it cannot be from Him. I point out that only Jesus baptizes us with the Holy Ghost as promised from the Father in His name.
Remember how Simon had thought he could buy that power from Peter & John thinking they were the ones giving the baptism with the Holy Ghost by the laying on of their hands? They rebuked Simon and somin repented, asking the to ray to God for him that he would not be punished for having believed that.
Even when Jesus was on earth and complaints about His disciples not being able to cast out demons out of this one boy, and Jesus chastened them for having little faith and He casted the demon out. When they had asked Him why they could not do it, He said this kind cannot go out except thru prayer & fasting; as I see Him meaning giving the task to God by prayer and denying having any part in this casting out of the demons hence by fasting thus giving glory to God.
To me when I read the scripture especially were John the Baptist is talking it seems fairly clear that the two baptisms are separate events all together although both are important.
Well, to be clear, water baptism may be the other baptism along with the Holy Ghost as found in scripture but water baptism has nothing to do with making us families or with salvation but baptism with the Holy Ghost does deal with salvation by believing in Jesus Christ alone for how we become the sons of God per John 1;12-13.
The extra baptism I am speaking against is this other filling of the Holy Ghost or sometimes known as another baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues or even as the "second blessing" when there is only one baptism with the Holy Ghost ( Ephesians 4:4-6 & Colossians 2:5-10 ) as traditions have been taught of us as occurring when we had first believed at the calling of the gospel per 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 and no other time so we can heed this warning 2 Corinthians 11:1-4 & avoid this apostasy 1 Timothy 4:1
