per 1 Tim 5:8...it seems to me that however many jobs you may need to provide for your own and your household, is the answer. If being a preacher isn't providing you with enough resources to be able to do that, then it sounds like "the world" may be right, in suggesting that you should supplement your preaching vocation with secular employment as well.

i don't think that is what that says at all...do you see the words work many jobs?

No, the Bible doesn't say "work many jobs". It doesn't have to. What it does say, seems fairly clear.

God, seems to me, likes to watch how we'll fill in the blanks.

So...what do you think it says, Quenton?

It doesn't tell us how to get there, nor does it offer advice on what vocation you are supposed to take.

no thats Gods job the second part of that..but if we wewre to work many jobs the bible would say so

That may be convenient reasoning, but that's like saying that "if I needed to go to the grocery store to get food, the Bible would have told me that!".

does the bible not say we need to eat? it atleast says we should not judge eachother based on what we eat...so i think the bible does say that we must go to the grocery store to get food :) it doesn't say work many jobs though..so your reasoning may not be working to well it sounds secular not scriptural

HUMM Jesus worked as a carpenter( mark6:3) Paul was a tentmaker( Acts 20:33-35) and if no man work he should not eat either.( 2 Thess 3:10) So I sure do not see any problem working myself, not to be a burden to others, guess that is just my way of thinking. But as you can see, it sure does have support. Please consider this as well blessing all. 1 Cor 9:12)

Secular, not scriptural? Shoot! Why do I keep doing that? I should have learned as much by now, in communicating with you Quenton! :-)

Ok fine - you don't like/accept my reasoning. But you're working with a double-standard. You believe the Bible says we should go to a grocery store, because it says we should eat....yet you don't think it would be imaginable that the Bible might also suggest you maintain enough work/jobs in order to come under the teachings of I Tim.

This, to me, is convenient reasoning, but not the truth.

If you want to continue to use your reasoning, then you should find a verse in the Bible where it guides us to only and ever work 1 job, and not more than one. You know of such a verse?

eating is a necessarily for living is working one?...
youll say yes of course but you won't find scripture to support it...

why would God want us doing things the way the world does them?

We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work.
John 9:24

do you get a job based on Gods will?

well the last time I looked I could not trade, food for anything other then money, they would never take it from me. Come on Bro!! We take a job. to show Jesus as well to others by working!! Not to be a part of them!! Of course you are right there!!! When it rains, does it not also rain upon you as well if you are outside? the difference is who lives in us,not over us.blessing to you!! And if you believe the Lord told you not to work? I would test that spirit as well!! 1 john 4:1

in what way are wwe showing Jesus if we blend in with the world?

I am not telling you to blend!! Dear Lord!! I am telling you to be a LIGHT!! to the World!! Can one be a light if that light is hidden?? Please just consider this.I am not telling you what to do,I also will not be hearing any crying, when things become due,and you can't pay either!! I know!!

I tried the same thing bro!! But God why???? Your Word says this and that!! YEP Holy Spirit came back and said yea,it also says be ye DOERS of the Word and not hearers only!! So I got off my lazy bottom and got to work, both for the need I had, and to be a light for Jesus whom I say I serve!! Please do not learn the hard way like I did bro!! Believe me!! it pays in both Jesus, and our faith to work!

uhh.....yes! To me, that's under the obvious category.

you won't find scripture to support it...
Nor will you, on the Bible mandating you shouldn't ever get a 2nd job. The Bible doesn't often spell out everything for you in black and white, or strike you with lightning so that you get it.

why would God want us doing things the way the world does them?
You seem to be a hardliner, with this line of logic. Remember: you haven't ascended to the heavens yet, Quenton...so you have to do things that humans do, because you are one. That would include providing for your household. If you want to shirk that responsibility because it is too "worldly", you are not in obedience to the Word.

do you get a job based on Gods will?
Yes. That's probably the only way I've been able to journey through the gauntlet of my career.

my youth pastor doesn't get paid he just believes doesn't miss anything

Thanks for not answering my question. If you were staying in my house and wouldn't get a job, I'd kick you out, you lazy, self-righteous bum.

am i of the world or in it? you seem to be a hardliner on that..

i will take care of my family through God

and so every single job yo uhave God let you to you believed for it and now God blesses you with raises etc. ?

benfaust may be making a great point - you sound very self-righteous Quenton.

As for your lack of understanding with what it means to live in the world but not of it --- you may want to take a look at Philippians 2:12. Part of "working out your salvation" is to bring these shades-of-grey-questions before Him who can guide you. That's the life we're called to.

i will take care of my family through God?

No, you won't. What you call "financial believing" is what you're planning on to take care of you and your house, in your mind. This is code for being a financial burden on people.

Either way, you are using your interpretation of scripture to cause you to justify not working. And you bask in self righteousness by calling the idea of a 2nd job being "of the world".

I Cor 9:15-18 tells us that even Paul had other resources to support his preaching, other than preaching himself (i.e., he had more than just "one job")

15But(A) I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing these things to secure any such provision. O don't worry about that i wouldn't live with someone who is so judgemental...atleast my owner doesn't kick me out based on a lack of understanding. I do have a job it's serving God i refuse to get a job outside of his will! Some of us may not be that willing...

if your willing to follow the worlds ways than you are the self righteous one living for yourself i don't live for myself which is why i don't have a job I live for God.

how are we defining self righteous today? if living for God and so not living for myself is self righteous than i'm all in...

no part of living salvation is living for God not living in the world..thank you

where does it say that? it says i do not charge you as i want to give Gods word for free...

so living for God is a burden for people?....that isn't something you should go posting on this site it won't go well

I said "self-righteous" because you are calling having a paying job "worldly," which makes every Christian who has a secular job a "friend of the world" (along with all the people who financially support those in ministry). The Bible doesn't say a secular job is being "of the world," YOU are saying it. Therefore, your supposed righteousness in this matter is coming from your own vain imaginations, not from God's word. Saying you are "self-righteous" was much less wordy.

It's pretty obvious you started this thread looking for support for your ideas that the person in whose house you're living apparently does not support (because it's anti-Scriptural). You have been very rude to other Christians who started out trying to help you by offering reasonable solutions to the problem you falsely identified as your real concern.

You obviously think that all the Christians on here are less spiritual than you, because you are treating them as though they are all worldly, while YOU are so spiritual. But just think about it for a moment... What motivation would a Christian have for believing it's okay to have a job? Would it be their flesh, because it's so much fun to work? Or could it possibly be that the Bible commands the believer to work to feed himself and his family (there are countless "worldly" Christians in the Bible who had paying secular jobs)? Compare that with what motivation someone would need to have for insisting it's evil to work for a living; that motivation would have to be either severe deception, or unrepented laziness.

You have basically scolded and even scoffed at those who are sharing what the Bible says about your refusal to earn a living. "They are not of us, because they will not hear us." It's pretty clear that you are not part of this community of Christians, because you are superior to and more spiritual than it, and refuse to be taught by anyone who doesn't agree with you. But the Bible says you're worse than an unbeliever. THAT is why I called you self-righteous. The "lazy" part is obvious.
