When we look at Gen 1:26 we see God saying, “Let us make man in our image and likeness”. Now without going into all that the Word of God says about God in three persons I just want to draw your attention to the fact that as God is three but one. We are created in three parts. We have a body, soul and spirit. The soul is again in three consisting of mind, will and emotions. At the fall man became sinful and this caused first of all a spiritual separation from God and then sin corrupted body and soul. So, the whole being is corrupted and were spiritually dead because we were separated from God. All those from Adam down are, were and will be in this state.
The tabernacle, in the book of Exodus, which is a figure of Jesus Christ, consists of three main components, the outer court, the holy place and the holy of holies. The mercy seat, or the ark of the covenant with the cherubim over it, was in the holy of holies together with the golden lampstand and the table of shew bread. The tabernacle also shows us how we are created, the outer court refers to our physical bodies, the holy place refers to our souls and the holy of holies refers to our spirits. Anyone who is sinful and is outside of Christ is open to demonic possession if they get caught up in the occult. The sinner does not have Christ on the throne of His heart. Generally, he/she wants to be his/her own god living by his/her own rules and standards. Christ Jesus is not his/her Lord.
Demonic possession means that a persons’ spirit is possessed by a demonic spirit and not the Spirit of God. When a person comes to repentance, that is he/she turns away from his/her sins and places their trust in the salvation brought about by Jesus Christ alone finds mercy from God and any demon there will be cast out. Light and darkness cannot share the same house. When a light is put on in a dark room it pushes the darkness out. God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5), Jesus is the light.
When Jesus went into the temple what was the first thing He did? He threw out all the money changes, etc and said that His Fathers house is a house of prayer. Those in Christ have Christ in their hearts because we are the temple and a house of prayer. God does not live in houses built with stone. Once a person is in Christ it is impossible for him/her to be possessed by a demon. I challenge anyone here to prove to me where in the New Testament, which starts from the book of Acts and not the gospels, the apostles or other believers cast out demons from any believer. Now you are probably confused because our bibles show the New Testament starting with the Gospel of Matthew. But the New Testament only came into being once Jesus brought that covenant in with His Blood shed on the cross. This covenant was promised by God and here are a couple of verses to prove that. Jeremiah 31:31-34, “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah,
Jer 31:32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD.
Jer 31:33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
Eze 37:26 I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore.
The covenant being spoken of in the above verses is a covenant made with Israel and not the Church. Salvation is of the Jews (John 4:22). When Jesus gave the great commission in Matt 28:18-20 He was speaking to the remaining 11 disciples/apostles. Then at Pentecost the Holy Spirit was out poured on those in the upper room. They immediately started to share the gospel with Peter seeing 3000 saved in one day. In Acts 8 Philip the evangelist was preaching Christ and as those he was evangelising repented and believed the demons came out and there was much rejoicing in that city.
Act 8:4 Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word.
Act 8:5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.
Act 8:6 And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did.
Act 8:7 For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed.
Act 8:8 So there was much joy in that city. (ESV).
We, as gentiles, are grafted into the vine. Jesus is the vine (John 15). The apostles that went out were Jews and they took it out into the whole world. However, the Jews rejected their Messiah and so the gentile church (consisting of both Jew and gentile) continued preaching the gospel and making disciples after the apostles. This has continued to this very day but with the advent of Israel becoming a nation again in 1948 we have seen a decay (apostacy) happening in the church and we see that from Israel the Jews are again being saved and the gospel going out from them. As it was in the beginning, so we see it happening again.
I leave you with this one thought. Where does antichrist set up the abomination of desolation in the temple? We see it prophesied about in Dan 9:27; Dan 12:11 and in Matt 24:14; Mk 13:14; he set it up in the temple in Jerusalem in the Holy of Holies. Jerusalem is a picture of our hearts only Christ should rule there, however, those not in Christ have already have the abomination of desolation set up in their hearts because they will worship antichrist, which does not only mean against Christ but instead of Christ. Those is Christ will not have this abomination of desolation set up their hears because Jesus Christ rules there.
