Has tongues ceased today?

All through the Bible, God was dealing with Israel as a nation. I showed the verses that show that earlier in this thread. Yes, they're unbelieving Jews today also, but they are dealt with the same as we are. Another thing, wasn't the Jews always present when people were speaking in tongues? I've heard people speak in tongues a couple of times, but I don't go to many churches around me that do it because they believe that you can lose your salvation.'

Woz'umoya, Your comment that Philip could not pass on the Holy Spirit is pure conjecture and shows that you are mis-informed about how the Holy Spirit works. In John 3, Jesus, speaking to Nicodemus, uses this metaphor to describe how the Spirit works: "The wind blows whereever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (Jn 3:8)

The study notes in my Bible say that this means that the Holy Spirit is sovereign, that he is unpredictable - he works as he pleases. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is not a predictable thing that humans can bring about at their whim.

I do not agree that "tongues has ceased" neither do many believers (of many years of reading/studying the Word). This thread has gotten too far and I believe it is misleading, unfruitful by now.

Mods, please do not post to this thread any longer.
