How do I accept Jesus as my Savior?

Not open for further replies.
They got me to "ask Jesus into my heart." Maybe that helped. At least it got my attention. And certainly led to me asking God to let me understand the Bible.

I'm asking that because lots of well-meaning people have other people repeat a prayer with them. That can be misleading. I would have had you praying out-loud yourself - talking to God -- because it's Your personal relationship being started - and That way , I'd know if you really understood Your personal need For salvation and desire / understanding Of salvation.

After 'we'd' be talking -- I'd ask if you understand and would like to talk to God , yourself. If you weren't really sure, then we'd be able to talk More. No one should ever feel pressured into praying.

It's great that you asked God to help you understand His Word.

Did you understand what it meant To "ask Jesus into my heart"?

I still don't know what it means.

"Ask and it will be given. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened."

But it got me to do what Jesus recommended.

@David 1954 -- will try to help with that.

1st -- do you acknowledge that you're a sinner and in need of Being 'saved'? Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." vs 9 "Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him."

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that who so ever believeth on Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life."

Ephesians 2:8 - 9 " For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.. Not of works, lest anyone should boast"

Romans 10:9 - 10 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

And 1 Corinthians 15: 1-3 " ...... I declare to you the gospel......by which also you are saved.....that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures, ..."

Jesus Christ was seen by many people during the next 40 days before He ascended back up to heaven -- Acts 1: 9 "Now when He had spoken these things, while they watch. He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight." and then to vs 11 "........this same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

Romans 10 passage -- with the mouth one confesses unto salvation -- simply means that we talk to God / prayer and share with Him -- from our heart -- that which we Do believe and accept. And we thank Him for His gift of salvation that we accept.

A person -- You -- can pray to God through Jesus Christ -- right Now-- and accept His salvation. And -- if you haven't already -- you can do that now and hopefully you will.

All these have I kept from my youth up.

You kind of sound like the rich young ruler who was asking Jesus what he needed to do to be saved. He'd told Jesus that he'd done all those things from his youth onward. What the 'message' was in that situation, is that his 'good' works were not really enough. There would Always be 'something' left to be done. That isn't how salvation works, The blood of Jesus Christ on the cross Was / Is enough.

Are you saying that you accepted Christ as your personal Savior when you were a young person?

Almost sounds like you have a 'head' knowledge of what salvation is all about, but haven't actually Done It?

I was just saying I have long known everything you said.

I am not tracking how you are concluding I have not done it.

A person can know something for a Long time and still not have applied it Personally.

I had a head knowledge of Bible / salvation for a long time before I realized I'd not applied that knowledge Personally. When I Did apply it Personally -- I Finally had a real inner peace that hadn't been there previously.

I still don't know what it means.

That sounds like You are responding for yourself AND "I still don't know what it means".

Which brings the question of what Is salvation. Which is why I shared all those Scriptures with you earlier.

What is true " tongues" Because Biblical speaking in tongues requires an interpreter. In Acts -- there were Lots of Jews from all over gathered together. They all could understand what Peter was saying in their own language.

And in a church service -- it says that only two or three can speak and only when there is immediately someone to intepret what they are saying.

A prayer language is different. That's between a person and God.

Someone asked me to invite Jesus into my heart. Which I did.

But it all became real when I asked God to open my eyes to hear the Bible.

When He granted my request, I was infilled with the Spirit, and in about a year, I was baptized in the Spirit.

Okay -- HOW did you invite Jesus into your heart?

How about 1 Corinthians 15: 1-3

Part of the 'process' Of salvation-- it all happens at the same time. At the moment Of salvation the Holy Spirit immediately indwells the person. At That point a believer Will begin to understand Scripture more Because of the presence Of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. That wouldn't be something a person Asks for -- I don't understand Why it took a year to happen.

Someone explained to me in another thread that the indwelling of the Spirit and the baptism in the Spirit are different events, as I can attest.

@David -- you Still haven't acknowledged 1 Corinthians 15:1-3 or Romans 10:9-10. Extremely relevant to this conversation.
