24 hours is morning to morning, or sunset to sunset. Morning to evening is 12 hours of light in a day as Jesus said.

I agree and so there was evening and morning each day which makes it a 24 hour day as sunset to sunset is evening which is night time to morning inferring the day time starting at morning till evening which is half that day as 12 hours.

There was evening and morning the first day and every day after that.

I realize that the sun and the moon and the stars were created the 4th day to give times and seasons for mankind that will be soon created, but that should be telling in how that day was set up to be by the sun and the moon for us to know that the first day was a 24 hour day because that was what it was the fourth day.

Course that light was there the first day to govern it as a 24 hour day but the fourth day gave future mankind a reference point by them on what that day was as there was evening and morning each day.
