1 John 1:8
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
John use the word we here so he includes himself,
Greetings Dave,
perhaps we need also to look at the big picture and cease from limiting God to our time frame?
I have sinned. You have sinned. At Peace has sinned. All have sinned. (I know that us three can and do recognise that fact and confess it. We do not deny that.)
Can someone please tell me when I sinned? No, sorry. That should be, could someone please tell me when our sins were nailed to the Cross?
Can someone please tell me if the Salvation we talk about in Jesus Christ has an end?
Can someone please tell me if the Blood Shed has ceased to cover sin? and, if so, when?
Can someone please tell me how it is in 2018 that the sins of today can be covered by what Jesus, the Son of God, did in dying and fulfilling the Law?
You see, the forgiveness is endless and at the same time has no beginning nor end. That forgiveness is still valid, so the sin it covers and forgives is now part of our history but it is still a sin committed that required penalty.
When will the Life purchased for us expire?
And, when the Lord washed us, was it a one time thing or is His cleansing eternal?
We like to say that God knows everything. That is quite kind to acknowledge that, even generous. Perhaps he left a few sins not yet committed in our time frame out? Do you think that He might have?
So, whether I sin today or last century, is it the same forgiveness that He offers or does He have a different one?
Are we exhorted to sin? NO!
Are we exhorted to cease from sinning? YES!
I was thinking about the woman brought to Him who had been caught in adultery. He said He did not condemn her... and go, and sin no more.
Do you think He is a bit cruel to say that to her. She didn't even have the Pentecost experience under her belt. I suppose Jesus figured it might deter her for a while?
It was asking a bit much wasn't it? Or was it a command, from God?
How could a woman do such a thing? How could anyone do such a thing? Sin no more.
Perhaps God is in the business of asking/commanding us to do things we can't do.
If so, why would He do that? Perhaps to make us realise we are still men in need of a Saviour.
Bless you ....><>
