Non-Beneficial Practices

People may change, and peoples ideas of what is and what is not moral may change, but God's moral law does not change: it is written in scripture as with an iron pen.

It may seem moral for cannibals to hunt their human neighbors in order to kill them, dress and clean them, roast them over a fire pit, and then eat them, but it is still murder, and murder is a moral law that God commands thou shalt not do.

It might seem perfectly moral for swinging married couples to host swinger parties where everyone has sexual relations with everyone else not their spouse. There not hurting anyone, right? Except they are acting in rebellion to God's moral law that says thou shalt not commit adultery.

Bottom line: If it's something that is contrary to God's moral law, it's not okay for children of God to celebrate it.
yes i understand , but did GOD Give His LAW to The Hebrew People or was it told Moses to give it to the whole world? I thought GOD's Moral law was given to the Hebrew People. Or the Old Testament translations is full of errors.. And why did GOD tell the Hebrews to not associate with the Neighboring nations. I thought the Bible taught, that GOD's people are not to act like the People of The World, "Come out from among", Bad company corrupts "Good Morals". have nothing to do with them. a little leaven, leavens the whole lump. In others words you cannot change them they will change you! You have nothing in common with them.

Now i understand kids must go to school, people must work

Yes, God's moral law written on stone tablets was given to Israel. Israel was to be a beacon to the rest of the nations, shining a light from their city on a hill so that the nations outside of Israel would also come to see that there is a God unto salvation. And even though the God of salvation would be evident by the light in Israel, it is the ONE TRUE GOD of the universe.

Israel failed to be that light, so God became a human to first provoke Israel one last time. When that did not work, God sacrificed HIMSELF as the LIGHT of the World and wrote HIS moral law on the fleshly hearts of men who would come to faith in HIM.

Don't worry, Bill. It's not that big a thing. This issue is something that most Christians have to decide for themselves. Aside from the overall effect on the church in a negative direction back in the days of Tertullian, which we have unfortunately inherited to this day, individually it's a matter that now comes down to what a man does by faith He does unto God. As the OP stated, it an issue where "all things are permitted but not all things truly benefit. "
I am genuinely interested I just can't follow you with what you had said before.

I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing a little bit about tertullian. And what it is that you are focusing on.

I myself am not a historian but I thought that you would like to share a little more deeply with everyone here so that we can understand what we inherited.

And maybe give a little example of your statement " all things are permitted but not all things are truly benefit"

In Christ, thank you

And in all this sin we Christians teach our kids Jesus was born on December 25. When we have zero Scripture for such a date.
Is that relevant. Does it even matter . No one knows with certainty that todays sunday is actually Sunday.

What is important is finding value to make a day the Day special for Jesus Birth. Just like making a Day Holy because we want to worship God with others

Nope as i ask does it say anywhere in Scripture we should . Could it be a vague date by God's foreknowledge? As @Sue D. implied ?
Has everyone forgotten the Apostles said, not everything was written down.

Yup that means toilet seats are not of the devil to

Yes, God's angels alerted the shepherd's of the birth of their awaited Messiah, that HE had come. Luke records that scene beautifully. Had it been imperative that the exact birth day be remembered in perpetuity and celebrated with yule logs ornamented in silver and gold, God would have told us so. Don't you think?
Toilets are not mentioned in scripture , does that mean its of the devil ?

Liberalization of the Scripture. Who is man to attempt to make a Holy Day of His birth when His Father did not

God has given us feast days. Given them so the kids will remember . ( Exo 13:14 And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:) Who is man to add to His Days?
I have made Jesus birthday cakes , Had the tree, gave and received the gifts. I dont object to having a gift giving day . I object to man trying to make a Holy Day that is not of God/Scripture.
Did God make all the days of the week? Isnt God Holy ? Every day , we should be praising our God. But He only asks that we keep one day Holy ( per week )

Why object if others wish to Praise God for the birth of the Savior , or the Resurrection of the Savior.

What point are you trying to say. That we should not praise God ?

That is a very good point , the Laws of Moses given to the Jews.

Its something i see as tragically funny. As todays Christians pick and choose which rules they will follow. The ones that fit thier ideas and church the best .

An example , tithing. Which was explicitly given to the Jews, because they were so stubborn . Jesus own words

What do those facts have to do with .... I agree back to Scripture where do we find Christmas in Scripture. where do we find Dec 25 as His birth in Scripture?

This was interesting and others told me this too that December 25th was chosen to coincide with dates of pagan festivals honoring pagan gods. Even the Christmas tree is in celebration of winter equinox, even though Christians think on this differently. I think it everyone has to follow their conscience when it comes to their walks with God in certain matters and weigh things/pray about things carefully.

I think 1 Corinthians 8 is a good chapter to remember that some things are a matter of conscience sake and to do our best not to cause stumbling for our brothers and sister who believe differently. Not everything is sin. Those things Christians know are sin should be avoided and the Truth should be spoken out.

1 Corinthians 8
1Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2The one who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. 3But the one who loves God is known by God.

4So about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one. 5For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many so-called gods and lords), 6yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we exist. And there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we exist.

7But not everyone has this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that they eat such food as if it were sacrificed to an idol. And since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8But food does not bring us closer to God: We are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

9Be careful, however, that your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10For if someone with a weak conscience sees you who are well informed eating in an idol’s temple, will he not be encouraged to eat food sacrificed to idols? 11So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12By sinning against your brothers in this way and wounding their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

13Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to stumble.

The bodily resurrection Of Jesus Christ has Also been questioned. Some say it took place early on day After the Sabboth -- therefore , Sunday, the Lord's Day in honor Of his resurrection

Others prefer to worship on Saturday. Because we don't have an exact hour Of his resurrection. Lots of churches celebrate with Sunrise services.

I'd written 'this' earlier and forgot to post it.

Jesus rose on the first day of the week - Sunday.

I think tithing is beneficial. It is a good standard of giving, and Bible does say to give as well as give honor to whom honor is due
