What is Easter, and why do Christians celebrate this holiday?

Even if we could work out the exact day and time of the birth, death and ressurection of the Lord Jesus.....we shouldnt celebrate the worldly pagan traditions.

Christmas trees, Easter Eggs, Holly and Ivy, wreaths and so forth are all seeped in evil pagan festivity.

@Sue D.

Luke 12:3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

There are only two Holy Periods that spawn eight days. Feast of Unleavened Bread and Feast of Tabernacles.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luke 1:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Christ born in Bethlehem Judea which is in Jerusalem or pretty close . Some thing was going on in Jerusalem in which there was no room in the inns. It just so happens on the feast of unleavened bread and the feast of tabernacles all the Jews are required to be in Jerusalem.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deuteronomy 31:10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the solemnity of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles,

Deuteronomy 31:11 When all Israel is come to appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

Deuteronomy 31:12 Gather the people together, men and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and observe to do all the words of this law:

Deuteronomy 31:13 And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear, and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it.

It just so happens that Gentiles and Strangers come up to Jerusalem on the Feast of Tabernacles so the inns could definitely have been over maximum capacity

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

John 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

we are in the information age with vasts amount of information and it is extremely easy to be carried to an fro. however with the very little i do know and can perceive, as well as thru following the tea leaves the Feast of Tabernacles seems like a good bet

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
What is known is that it would have been too cold for Mary to have delivered a baby in a manger in the dead of winter, or for shepherds to be tending their flock so the month of December is already out of the equation. without a second though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Fragrant Grace

His birthday is being celebrated when the ordained Holy Days of God are being celebrated. I myself am out of order and need to get in sync with the knowledge of the Holy Days though.

Also is not unlawful to my knowledge for people to celebrate their birth or days of marriage; unless a possible stumbling block for someone.
Once it does not subvert the ordained Holy Days of God or pays homage to idols then it should be fine; Unfortunately most if not all our public holy days do just that though. So that is what one would say a conundrum.

The Patriarchs kept the Holy Days before it was even given to Moses

Gen 33:17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
Gen 33:18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.
Gen 33:19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.
Gen 33:20 And he erected there an altar, and called it Elelohe-Israel.

Succoth = Tabernacle/ Booth "Feast of Tabernacles"

Lev 23:42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:

Luk 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luk 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Sue D.

Based off the scriptures i went over "and i won't post all" but Lev 23:42 along with Genesis 33:17-20 seem to indicate that Joseph and Mary was in some type of booth that had a manger inside in which Christ was born.

This would be a fulfillment of the first day of the feast of tabernacles and he would be circumcised on the eight day of the feast of tabernacles which would be another fulfillment.
--------------
Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him
---------------------------------------------------------------------

So as of right now; The most accurate date for the birth of Christ, based on the scripture and clues; Is the first day of the Feast of Tabernacle/Sukkot/Booth which is on the fifteenth day of the seventh month.

-----------------------------------------------------

Correlation of Christ Death and Resurrection Ending of Passover and Ending of 3rd Day Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Correlation of Christ Birth and Circumcision 1st Day Feast of Tabernacles and 8th Day Feast of Unleavened Bread
-------------------------------------------------------------

Eggs and Rabbits are fertility symbols used to worship Fertility idols or deities.

However if you do believe Easter Sunday is in fact biblical; What do the eggs and rabbits represent?
Peter said to add virtue to your faith before knowledge so make sure your virtue is sufficient before you go searching; if you decide to do so.

Typo I meant:

Correlation of Christ Birth and Circumcision 1st Day Feast of Tabernacles and 8th Day Feast of Tabernacle

@Ivar -- I believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the 3rd day after His death -- that puts Resurrection Day on the 1st day of the week which is Sunday. Which is what the four Gospels say. "Upon the first day of the week --After the Sabbath."

On my calendar -- This year 'Easter' Resurrection Day was on the first Sunday in April.

Of Major importance is that He Did , indeed rise from the dead Proving that He was indeed the Son of God. That He Did die on the cross for our sins -- He took our sins upon Himself -- His Blood was shed for mankind.

The eggs and rabbits? A tradition that came from someplace. It's a fun time for kids. Some churches do it and some don't. No one should be making anyone take part in those activities.

Lots of churches have Resurrection Day sunrise services in remembrance of the actual time of day it took place.

Christmas is Also very important. Without His birth , there would be no death, burial and bodily resurrection. Mary being a virgin -- conceiving of Jesus through the Holy Spirit and gave birth to Him -- Christmas.

@Sue D.

What is your understanding of this scripture concerning prophecy?

Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you ok with that? If not; how have you shown that?

How do you think the Husband of Heaven and Earth would feel based off your statements so far?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't claim or not claim to be a saint of the Most High; However I must say that your responses are wearing me out.

And yours are wearing Me out.

To answer the thread question -- what is easter? It represents the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why do Christians celebrate it? There's song that goes--- "Up from the grave He arose........ Hallilujiah What a Savior"

@Sue D.

Your response seems a bit cheeky in an amusing lighthearted predictable way. I could not have said I honestly knew when Christ birthday was with certainty and perhaps that information was also for you; But it is a bit disheartening that the most accurate information concerning his birth in regards to scripture was given and you rejected it. That seemed to be one of those "Eureka!!!!" type moments.
Also It was on my spirit to compile the following; Perhaps they were meant for you also;

Solemn Assemblies & Holy Convocations

Respect & Friendship

Fourth Beast & Saints

:smile::grin::shades:

Ivar -- are you possibly Jewish?

Your post #48 -- how do I think the Husband of heaven and earth would feel based on my comments? What do you mean by "Husband of Heaven and Earth"?

You want my thoughts on one verse -- Daniel 7:25. And in the world of prophesy. I'm not going to get into some kind of debate with you.

My daughter and I have been Very busy with lots of details since my husband's passing.

I just looked at those three areas you listed. Okay?!

Among the passages you share -- most are Old Testament -- you've included two in the New Testament. The two in the New Testament are saying to obey the Old Testament laws. You DO realize that obeying laws does Not save a person.
The blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross Does.
Keeping the Ten Commandments does Not Save a person.

You are very 'big' on obeying Old Testament laws / observing all the Holy Days, etc.

someone -- maybe it was you -- took time to figure out exactly when Christ was really born -- which wasn't Dec 25. So -- apparently I'm Supposed to celebrate Christmas -- if I choose to -- on the exact date of His birth -- otherwise I'm not really obeying God's Word?!

Well -- you are welcome to worship and honor all the Old Testament Holy days, etc.

I'm a Believer who worships God on Sunday. And I celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25 as most other Christian people who I know do.

Are you maybe a Messianic Jew?

@Sue D.

1. My condolences for your lost.
2. Concerning my ancestry; I do not know my parents. I have been to a few messianic jew assemblies, as well as, protestant, catholic, Lutheran, SDA, JWs, etc. They all tossed me to and fro.
I've had to do quite a bit of reading and researching to where I am now.

----------------------------------------------------------
3. As for Husband; The males roles of Provider and Protector came "originated" from The Heavenly Father

Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Isaiah 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

His Creation is likened to his bride and when we pay homage / worship to other Gods and Idols we are committing spiritual fornication.
Easter and Christmas are Pagan in origin and actually predate when Christ came in the Flesh. Such things were forced on believers in the past. Christianity has a very bloody past of converting people by the sword. It contradicts the book.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Concerning Saving a person; it actually takes both the law of Moses and faith of Christ. Their word were both of the Father. Moses brought the law and commandments of God while Christ brought the grace, truth, and faith of God.

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

I myself am still waiting for
Rev 13:9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Rev 13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. It can appear that Moses and Christ teachings are different but in actuality they are One and The Increase is of The Father.

In the Grand scheme of things
1Co 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1Co 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Exo 3:12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
Exo 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Exo 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you

Joh 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Joh 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
Joh 12:50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Often times asking questions can be a good way to communicate something but when i do it I am always considered debating; However that is fair enough.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. I am very big on the whole book but my deeds aren't quite up to my words yet. Still learning and still need to rehearse the righteous acts to add to my faith and make it living or perfect.

Jdg 5:11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the LORD, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the LORD go down to the gate

Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8. My faith is shown by my work and if I am not doing the works of Christ then believe me not or count me faithless.

Joh 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

@Sue D.

Your Response:
I'm a Believer who worships God on Sunday. And I celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25 as most other Christian people who I know do.
---------------------------------------------------------

My Response:
Your words are telling; Your honesty refreshing .

Even Christ said

Revelations 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I've emphasized it all here

Solemn Assemblies & Holy Convocations

Here are more scriptures to consider

Acts 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

Words of Peter to Consider

2 Peter 2 King James Version (KJV)
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am unable to discern what these things and images below has to do with The Lord. Perhaps myself am lost.
easter - Google Search
christmas - Google Search
------------------------------------------

Those are all things you can consider when buying/merchandising eggs, rabbit ornaments, dead/living trees for one day of the year, and other traditions associate with those so called holy days while you say is just for fun or for the children when scripture says

Proverbs 22:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Ran out of time but I forgot that your train of thought more than likely comes from the writings of Paul in which most of Christianity uses as it's foundation. But their is a reason Peter said

2 Peter 3:16-18 King James Version (KJV)
16 "Paul" As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most if not all of Paul's writings require an understanding of the Schoolmaster "which is the Law of Moses" prior to being read. Don't forget Paul was a Pharisee and a son of a Pharisees

Acts 23:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

The other Fold is the Gentiles as we know they were not of that fold yet later came into the fold by Christ

Ivar -- referring back to your post # 53 -- with your back ground in such a diverse belief systems -- no Wonder you're confused. You said you feel tossed to and fro.

Another question -- how old are you?

Want to share with you Ephesians 2:8 - 9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from ourselves, it is the gift of God -- Not by works so that no one can boast."

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 -- "Now brothers (and sisters) I want to remind you of the Gospel I preached to you, ...... by this Gospel you are saved....that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scripture, that He was buried, that was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures."

The Law was given to show us that it's impossible to keep all the laws all the time -- thus -- no one can 'work' their way to heaven. We Need a Savior. That's what the Gospel of Matthew1:22
tells us about. And the Isaiah 7:14 predicts the future birth Of Jesus Christ. "Immanuel" would be coming -- Jesus Christ -- "God with us".

Romans 10: 4 "Chris is the end of the Law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes" and then go to 10:9-10.
A person believes in their heart and then confesses with their mouth the Lord Jesus and they are saved.
Believing in their heart that Jesus Christ's death , burial and bodily resurrection are enough to save us.
Acknowledge our personal need For salvation.

Ivar -- well -- the 'school master' is the Holy Spirit.

And, yes, there are parts of Scripture that Are harder to understand than others. But the basics of salvation are made simple.

The Ten Commandments were given to Moses for the Children of Israel by God. He had wanted them to remember that He was the God who led them -- through Moses -- God chose Moses to lead all of them Out of the bondage they had been under for hundreds of years in Egypt.

There were Lots of other gods being worshiped by lots of people groups around them. They were told not to follow those other gods -- but only God who delivered them.

All the laws in Leviticus were to set them apart from other people groups. To protect their health and well-being. Those laws -- the Ten Commandments have been replaced in the New Testament. By "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind as well as your neighbor as yourself." If a person does That -- then they won't need to be following the commandments of the Old Testament.

God wants relationship with us out of love -- Not out of 'command'.

But there are still consequences to our choice. IF a person decides to accept God's gift of salvation to stay OUT of hell, great. IF a person does Not accept God's gift , then that person will end up in hell.

God's Gift is the fact that His Son, Jesus Christ came into this world to die on the cross for our sins. And He rose again on the 3rd day. He took our sins and died with them. Went to hell in our place with all our sins and came back From.

If a person dies in their sins -- that person will end up in hell. However, if a person accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Savior From hell -- they will be able to be with Jesus Christ for all eternity. Will be in the presence of God for eternity.

And Paul was Also / came to be a believer -- an Apostle. God touched his heart -- instead of being a persecutor of believers -- he came to Christ/ God and was chosen to give us the Prison Epistles. Galations, Ephesians, Phillipians, Colossians.

@Sue D.

1. I said; "They all tossed me to and fro"
yet you state i said "You said you feel tossed to and fro"

Now you are asking me my age?
I am a living soul. Spirit in flesh just like any Man. I am less than a day old.

2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Thank you for sharing Ephesians 2:8-9
However i no longer drink milk. Here is some meat

James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

John 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. If only you were able to learn meat from Paul

1 Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Your already aware of Joseph is the father according to the flesh premise so no need to rehash it here.
For the most part no longer being contested on here. But I may still add to them

Proving Joseph The Father according to Flesh

Premise on Joseph/ Jesus relation
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Thank you for Romans 10:4 and Romans 10:9-10

However since we are in Romans; Might I invite you to partake with me the last verse of Romans 3.

Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Your Response
God wants relationship with us out of love -- Not out of 'command'.

Here is our Sirloin Steak:wink:

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. :shades:
