My understanding is that they are saying that Trump signed an act making it a felony to not return documents regardless of classification.

The law that Trump signed reads

willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined"

He signed it in hopes that if Hillary was charged, she would get a stiff penalty for her crimes.
Now it looks like that might be used against him.

Just to add my two cents to this.
One has to remember that the President has the authority to declassify documents that he has in his possession.
So, though they might believe he is in possession of classified material, it might not be so if he had declassified the documents in question. That is if there are documents in question that were found and not planted.

I question this because not allowing the Former President's lawyers to be present when they were gathering and boxing materials they removed, much less to see what they were bringing in with them (back packs) leaves many questions as to authenticity of the FBI's actions in executing the warrant in question which more than likely was legal, if not necessarily ethical considering that it has never been done with any other president in history.

Do I trust the Government to be above board in their actions towards anything that has to do with the Former President? Nope. History shows that even before 2016 when Former President Trump was elected, they were doing whatever possible to discredit him. That of course includes not just the Democratic party/operatives, but also the FBI. This is not conjecture, but has been shown from the Steel Dosier, to just about everything else under the sun that they could come up with to impeach him during his presidency.

We shall see, but I honestly believe that the Democrats have overplayed their hand with this action. I believe their numbers for the November Election were improving due to the Abortion issue, but now you have this which has pushed that subject out of the news and into the back pages if that. Adding to the interest is that President Biden, and Congresswoman Pelosi are out of town so that they won't have to answer questions on the subject, which will only prolong it, because the questions aren't going away and will be waiting for them when they get back. I would say that it's pretty convenient of them, and by the way where is the VP???

I see it as Criminally motivated (and I am not a Democrat). He took documents from the White House and the National Archives that contained a lot of sensitive data. Without proper authorization he took them home. Witnesses he hired saw hom destroying documents and flush some down the toilet, He was issued a Subpoena 3 months ago to return all these documents and had he complied (which was his legal obligation and part of his Constitutional Oath to obey this process). Had he done so this would not even be an issue.

However, because he is as Lindsay Graham originally stated, a malignant Narcissist who believes (as they do) that they should have absolute authority, former President Trump refused and sent them SOME, from which the Trump appointed Head of the FBI found sufficient evidence to convince a Trump Appointed Judge to issue a warrant and they have found 11 additional packets of sensitive material (illegal for him to possess).

So now hoovered people, who have become what Psychology calls Flying Monkeys (a condition similar to Stockholm Sydrome), want us to believe this continuous adulterer, fraudulent, party buddy of Jeff Epstein for 20 years guy, who even NOW, against the Constitution wants all U.S. generals to be so loyal to only him that he compares what he wants to the Nazi generals of WWII.

Considering this search is like 6 months after he may have taken something, seems like a slow process to me.

They issued a subpoena for him to return the docs over 3 months ago and had he complied as was his legal obligation for a crime that was against his Constitutional Oath we would not even be having these discussions. Now he did return some but these were incriminating.

But, after witness (people he hired) keeping with their legal obligations, reported having seen him destroying documents (a felony) and flushing others down the toilet, the Trump appointed Director of the FBI saw sufficient evidence to go to a Judge (that is a serious matter) so he chose a Trump appointed Judge (who was photoshopped by Fox as Sean Hannity has pointed out) who agreed that there was sufficient evidence, and that even a President (especially a President) cannot do this, so he issued a Warrant (a no-knock warrant so ex-President Trump could not destroy more or hide them)

When he originally refused to comply, if it was political, he would have been arrested for obstruction, but he was not because he committed a Federal Crime and violated his Constitutional Oath (not that he supported the Constitution wanting absolute authority and recently calling the U.S. Generals to show the same kind of loyalty to him as the Nazi generals of WWII). This continuously adulterous, financially fraudulent, 20 year party buddy of Sex-trafficker Jeff Epstein only cares about himself.
