Halloween, How do you feel about it?

Today at church the topic of the sermon was the Church's Standpoint on Halloween.

I have to say that upon reflection I found myself not fully behind the thrust of the sermon. I tend to veer away from Christian rants that are anti-this or anti-that, I refuse to support anti-gay marriage protests. I think that God wants us to focus on Him and not to fear His enemies. God has a ferocious enemy in Satan, one we're ill-equipped to overcome in our own strength but one we need not worry about because our loving, powerful and protective God has already overcome. Collosians 1 v 16-18 - For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

For me anything that diverts from our orders to preach Christ crucified (1 Corinthians 1 v 23) should be shunned. Let's not be afraid of the occult, rather let's tread on serpents Luke 10:19-20 - Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

One explanation I heard of the origins of Halloween is that the clue is in the name, 'All Hallows Eve'. It's all to do with a gathering by occultists against the Anglican celebration of All Hallows Day. This tells me that Satan is far more scared of our God than the other way around.

Please don't think I'm pro-Halloween, my son as a toddler felt very left out being prevented from dressing up and scrounging toffees from the neighbours. One girl at our church was saying she goes to a Church of England supported school that's running a Halloween party on Thursday - What's that about? I just don't feel we should fear the forces of evil.

I live in Burnley in the UK. In the 17th century in Burnley, Pendle being an occultist or even being suspected or rumoured of one was mortally dangerous. If you're a history buff like me click The Pendle Witches, a famous witch trial in Lancashire A very gory account. If you're ever in the UK a visit to Lancaster jail is really interesting but let's not go back there!

Interested to hear your views and thoughts.
I have heard it stated here a few times that Satan controls the world . Its a statements that drives me nuts , just in the colossal effect of what is said .

Now if Satan really did rule , there would be no life left , birds , trees , mice , everything would be gone . Plainly , Satan is Anti-Life.

Halloween , Satan likes to make good things seem bad , on every level . Let us look at the Catholic church. Scripture states , you can tell a person by thier fruits , or a religious group .

If we are to condemn the Catholics for what we do not understand , then we only condemn ourselves .

And if we judge based on what you hear by so many , then you make a fool of yourself before God .

The same goes for Catholics who think the same of thier Protestant brothers and sisters .

All these things God will hold each of us accountable for .

But if we learn to forgive , and be forgiven , in love . Then our sins will be forgiven

What does this have to do with Halloween.

Halloween should be seen as a celebration . Think of all our family , friends neighbors who have passed on ahead of us .

And if you worry obout someones location after death , pray for them .

Do you believe in a "" Last Judgement ""

Let us think about this , if your life is predetermined whether or not you go to Heaven or Hell based on if you say Jesus is Lord . Then the Scripture already defies you . Look at the thief on the cross , did he ever say , Jesus is Lord , quote , unquote .. No , yet his heart said that in his compassion for Jesus .

And did Elijah or Enoch ever say , Jesus is Lord . Niether did .

So what allows them Heaven ??? It was thier Love of God . It is because in pure love , you will find Jesus .

A person who dies , is not gone . And in your love for them , you , "" YES , YOU "" bring Jesus to them in your gift of prayer .

The Grace of God goes beyond those who breath air .

So let us celebrate those who have passed on , let us celebrate , living in Jesus

@Bill -- Why would we want to take a look at the RCC. They do lots of things that are Not Scriptural. It's Not a matter of what 'we' don't understand -- it's a matter of what God's Word teaches that they don't.

Protestants are protestants because they do Not agree with the RCC. So they are Not our brothers and sisters in Christ. NOW -- brothers and sisters in Christ Are those who are born again.

A persons sins are forgiven when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. THEN we are to forgive others as Christ has forgiven us.

Halloween Is NOT a celebration of Anything Christmas is.

The location of a person After death is determined in This life Before death. Once a person is dead, they are in eternity and their eternal destiny was determined in the 'here and now'.

It's the belief in your heart / thanking God for His gift of salvation.

The thief on the cross recognized his sinfulness brought him to the cross for death. He Also acknowledged that Jesus Christ didn't deserve that death. He was acknowledging who Jesus Christ was and he acknowledge his sinfulness as a theif.

Elijah / Enoch -- they were taken up By God , Himself. They did not see death. They walked with God in the Old Testament.

That which allows Anyone to heaven is their achnowledging their need For Christ as personal SAvior. And that nothing they can do can help them get to heaven.

Nothing is brought to Anyone by a 'gift of prayer'.

Halloween is Not meant to be a celebration by Anyone except satan worshippers.

Be careful of your judgment of others because they do not think like you do .

I hear it so often the Protestants saying that they follow the Bible when they do not .

I do find it interesting when there is confrontation that things are made up to explain why one thinks one way or another way

Neither of the Catholics or the Protestants are innocent in these matters

It is written in the scripture to forgive your enemies to bless those that curse you and so on. These scriptures go both ways .

In the end both the Catholics and the Protestants will have to come together . If you cannot forgive the Catholics God will hold you accountable for that too

And if the Catholics cannot forgive the Protestants again they will be held accountable for that as well

Love is the key

The Protestants were protesting what the RCC church was teaching that was Not Scriptural.

The truth of Scripture is Never a made-up 'something to say'

Why will the RCC and the Protestants Have to come together in the end. In the End it's those who are born again who Will come together in the form of being raptured up by Jesus Christ in the air. Those in whom the Holy Spirit has come to indwell.

You believe that the RCC is the on true church. And the rest of us are rebellious. Well -- it's where a person places their faith. In the sufficiency of the shed blood of Christ on the cross OR including good works on our part. Ephesians 2:8-9 clarifies that for us. "not of works, lest any man should boast". .

Dont put words in my mouth Sue . I have never stated the Catholics are the one true church ..

What i did say was both Protestants and Catholics are guilty of the same issues , primarily stubborness and pride . And unless both parties can find a way to forgive and love in Christian brotherhood ( sisterhood) all will be held accountable.

As for the " coming together " if the Christians can not find a way to come together as Christians , you will not survive the time of the anti Christ

Candy coat it how ever y'all desire, and justify yourselves by what ever means...
It is a world event not focused on the Lord, but as dumb sheep being led before their shearer.

What part of any of it is being "Christ like"?

All glory be to God. Amen

halloween is of the devil; christmas is pagan. Choose Jesus over both and flee.

Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. Eph 5:11
You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 1 Cor 10:21

How do you figure that Christmas is pagan -- it's our celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ was born to die on the cross for our sins. He was the Son of God.

christmas has nothing to do with Jesus Christ. It is a regurgitated pagan Roman celebration that the catholics did not want to lay down so they slapped a "JESUS" sticker on it thinking they could outsmart God. christmas is pagan in root and has remained that way since it's inception. It began as the pagan Roman celebration of saturnalia - to honor their demon saturn, then later morphed into soli invictus - a celebration of the undying sun, (sun in the sky) as nature worship. It is entirely pagan at root, has nothing to do with Jesus Christ, and I have been told Dec 25 is the birth date celebration of the demon aka "god" mithra. The decorating of trees is pagan nature worship. Jesus knows it's not about Him.

Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Do you believe that He is God incarnate? Do you believe the account of His birth in the book of Luke?

The Holy Bible is absolute.
Jesus is Lord. Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is the Christ.

People who believe Halloween is ok open themselves to demons and unclean spirits. Halloween is celebrated by witches, occultists, and Satanic people. I also do not think much of Christmas but Halloween is satanic. The occult is extremely dangerous. Demons are very real. Satan is a spiritual being and he is powerful. We should not underestimate Halloween and the devil. If people claim to love Jesus yet think it is ok to celebrate Halloween, then perhaps their light is not shinning enough for him.

@Andyindauk -- God's Word tells us to Not mess around with the occult or anything satanic. It's dangerous. That particular passage was relating to something totally different. Those men were given those abilities to show that they were different. And in that particular area and time -- it was Jesus Christ who told them that. When they preached -- nothing would be allowed to hurt them.

@KittyLinda -- it's your attitude towards Christmas that puzzles me. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. What is your understanding as to how Jesus Christ came to this world. And His purpose For coming? And maybe it was also SheepMary who questioned Christmas.

I have nothing against celebration of Christmas but we should celebrate Christ daily.

Well -- what about the roots of Christmas being found in Luke 1 and 2. and the Date being accepted as December 25.

I dont fear the Occult or any dumb witch or any demon .especially Satan . God's Love lives in me .

I will not cower to the fear mongering set out by the darkness to have silly fun with my children .

Why would any Born Again Christian allow the darkness control over you . On any holiday .

Do you know , its when the darkness works the most , when they dont want you to experience or learn or meet a person . Its then you should pay more attention .

As an example , meeting a person you get the willies from . To me , that is a certain indicator , the darkness does not want me to reach out to that person . Well guess what . I always talk with those i get that feeling from
