My son is gay.....

Not open for further replies.
I'm lesbian. I don't think I'm in the wrong, nor has my relationship with God has waned one bit.

If we put as much energy into helping the sick and shut in, the hungry and the poor, making better schools and safer neighborhoods as we do stopping abortions and homosexuality and whatnot this world would be a way better place.

I am proud of who I am. And if no one can accept that, oh well. God loves everyone. At least that's what my bible reads.

  • Sure, I love you; God calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves. No where in the Bible does it say that I have to agree or accept your life style.
  • In fact Jesus always took it a step further. Some of his points: If you look at another with lust in your heart is the same a Adulttery. If you hate someone, it is the same as killing him. But we are called to love these neighbors.
  • God said he hates the sin but loves the sinner.
  • It all boils down to sin. Sure, God loves you but the Bible is clear, your homosexuality is a sin. No worse or no less than any sin I commit.
  • But the difference between you and I, is that I am regenerated and repentent of any of my sin, at least the ones that I am made aware of. On the other hand, you are clearly not repentent.
  • There will be plenty of true, Born Again Christians (Christ living inside them) that die labeled as a homosexual and will be healed and go to heaven. The difference in them and you is that, they are truly repentent for their life style, regret what they are doing and working to get out of that sinful relationship.
  • That's how I understand the Bible.
  • The same with abortion. If you are truly a Christian, you must truly beleive that the 50 million plus babies killed since Roe vs. Wade are in heaven. If that is true, that should answer your support for abortion. If you think that is false, then I question your relationship with God. I would suggest you start seeking a relationship with Jesus first, then see where that leads you.
  • As a Christian, I would die to protect you from hatered or harm but, I am apposed to homosexuality and abortion.
  • It is totally up to you. As long as you live in this world, you still have a choice.

While I don't agree with this member's position on homosexuality, I heartily endorse her challenge to shift our emphasis more in the direction of meeting people's needs and away from preaching at them. As Mother Teresa said, "Little things done with great love can change the world." She didn't scold people, she loved them into relationship with Jesus.

We as Christians need to pay attention to when the Lord wants us to stay silent and when to speak up. John the Baptist spoke up when King Herod took his sister - in - law for his wife. The Lord wanted John the Baptist to speak out because King Herod was King of the Jews. The silence of the Israelites while their king lived in sin was a message in itself, sexual immortality is acceptable. This is a message that was not from God.
God had a commentary on King Herod's sinful behavior and John was willing to loose everything to deliver that message. The message was... God does not tolerate sexually immorality.

I wait on the Lord to speak, when the Lord wants me to tell my son what God thinks about his behavior I will obey even if it means I temporarily loose my son's friendship. The price for me is very small.
My son's eternal security is more important to me then a good relationship with my son at all times, here on earth. I love him too much to sit back silently and watch him risk eternal death. Jesus is coming soon. My son is way too precious to me.
I said my piece to my son and now I will wait on the Lord. I know the Lord is not turning a deaf ear to my cry for my son's soul.

Years ago when my son was a child I had a dream we were sitting at a table, the Lord came, and we were taken up to be with the Lord. I am believing on that dream as a prophecy. When my precious son was a child he gave his life to Jesus, then he recommitted his Life to Jesus again at 16. I know he will come back to Jesus, and when he does he will have a strong desire to walk in holiness and obedience to the Lord.

My son is gay (or so he says he is). He has maintained that proclamation for four years. Recently he told me he is "in a relationship". My husbands response was, how did you meet him. My response was, I raised you as a Christian, the bible says homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord. I told my son I love him too much to sit back and make him feel like he is doing nothing wrong. This conversation between my son, husband and me occurred two weeks ago. Since then, my son has a great relationship with his father, my son won't look at me or speak to me. I am interested in your input.

Ummm, my view is that our task is not to expose the darkness of this world ... but to extinguish it. It seems to me that there are far too many Christians preferring to behave as flashlights ... (exposing the darkness) ... as opposed to being an eternal Light and triumphing over it.
I'm nearing 70 years old ... I've observed a tremendous amount of 'social norms' becoming redundant during those years. If it isn't one thing, it's another ... evil multiplies incessantly. Days after I heard/accepted the Gospel, I stumbled into a Christian Tract which declared that the act of chewing-gum was a one-way-ticket to Hell. Then there was the Beatle Mania cult and the witchcraft detectives ... not to mention the illegal drug scene. I've jus' about see the entire social realm turned on it's head.at least once.
Homosexuality, (and, abortion too), are this generation;s quantum leaps into the abyss of the powers of sin.
Those who indulge in and perpetuate the realm of sin die under the realm of sin.
The Inquisition and multiple other works of evil have began with the false interpretation of "compel them to enter in".
There are many these days too who perpetrate the works of evil by eagerly compelling those in depraved sin to enter through the verbal violence of accusation and condemnation.
Therein is the difference between between behaving as an accusatory flashlight or as a redeeming light in this increasingly sinful world.
Jesus never behaved as a flashlight ... nor did he behave as a candle: a light which self-destructs and therefore shames itself.
Do we read where Jesus wailed and lamented outside of a prostitute;s house? Do we read where Jesus publicly exposed the sin of man? No, instead he welcomed them into a quiet respectful conversation ... and mostly at their own urging. And, he revealed the sins of the adulterer very discreetly,
Yes, we're living in a world that does not belong to us ... nor possess us. it's plainly a foreign country with a language of behavior that oftentimes causes our moral compass to shudder. It's not our task to change the world ... why should it be? ... it doesn't own us nor do we own it's domination system.
Our task is a simple one: love conquers all! Mercy triumphs over every evil. The eternal Light emanating from us will draw the sinner away from their sinful ways and into the loving arms of our Jesus.
Otherwise, we do the works of the evil one ... the accuser ... the pious intolerant ... the self-appointed judge of all and rewarder of none.
The wages of the evil one are so utterly harsh that we should not wish to heap more scorn and shame on his victims. Ours is a gospel of hope and victory ... spoken with gentleness and loving-kindness..

I'm born again christian.I gave my life over to God 3 years ago following the end of a same sex relationship. Its been the most amazing feeling in the world, but I'm struggling with where my life begins.I don't know how to live outside of my church. Any suggestions?

  • I'm struggling with where my life begins That's easy, your life began the day you where born again! That doesn't mean you life will be perfect from that day, in fact, you may slip back into homosexuality in some way. I would regognize that what Jesus said about adultry can apply to homosexuality as well : (paraphrasing) "If you look even look at another person with lust in your heart, you have already committed the immoral act. So, even if we are Christians, we are humans and subject to fail sometimes. St. Paul summed up this issue in Romans 8:1...Therefore , there is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ.
  • The big difference is that you, being born again, means you have been regenerated from your "Old Self"; now you recognize the immorality of your previous sexual behavior and are repentent of that. The critical flaw of those who call themselves Christians and are totally un-repentent of their sin, They put their faith in social justise and not in the word of God.
  • .I don't know how to live outside of my church.... This is a good thing. This indicates that, as flawless as the church is, God has put the importance of the church in your heart; a true sign of being Born Again! Your struggle with this is also a sign that God wants you to move out in the public and be confident in what he has given you. Iike I tell my Sunday School class, church is so important but, it is not the three most important things: You, the word of God and the Holy Spirit.
  • Suggesstions:

  1. Recognize who you are in Christ...a child of God!
  2. Stay in his word on a daily basis...just open yourself up to him and let him guide you through this.
  3. Be in community with a good church...find those like brothers and sisters that can help you with your struggles...find the courage to help others understand the word of God.

When you say "Outside my church" do you refer to a church building or organization? Jesus wants to walk with you in your daily life one day at a time wherever you are and the amazing experiences continue as you grow spiritually.

You don't need to be a Christian to be a good person.

True, but to enter heaven you do need to be a christian. As much as we don't want to see ourselves burn. We also don't want to see others go to hell either.

As for the topic. I had homosexual encounters when I was younger. I knew they were wrong, but unfortunately more kids experience it than most think. After these encounters were no more I did struggle with my sexuality a little bit, but I knew it was wrong, and WANTED to not live the lifestyle I knew was wrong. THANKYOU GOD SO SO SO much for not letting me fall. I think the biggest thing here is the person has to realize within it's wrong and seriously WANT that change.

Only recently was I saved again. From my sins. You can't change how a person feels. You can only do your best. They have to change, and want to change. I wish I could be of more help. Lets get back on topic too. How come nobody has suggested prayer (that I saw). If you've raised your son, even somewhat with god in his life he will know these things are wrong. Please pray for him. As for the prayer I think only you can know what's best for him. Maybe some conviction on the path he is taking?

Homosexuality is found in over 1,500 species
Homophobia is only found in 1

Who's unnatural now?

We are born heterosexual or homosexual.
It isn't a choice. It will never change.
If you think it can be changed, let's all set an example,
Let's all be gay for about a year then go back to being straight

Easy... Right?
Not really...

Children aren't born homophobic.
They are taught to be homophobic.
Homophobia is a choice. It can change.
Stop this cycle of hatred.

------

How many homophobes does it take to change a lightbulb?
None,
They fear change. They refuse to allow change of any kind.

Even if it will make the world a brighter place.

Hello!

How about Christian-phobia (hummm......is that a word?) :shade:

In mentioning animal species, I'm sure you would also add homo-sapiens to the list of animals. That being the case. I can see how one could come to that conclusion by using comparison of species to make ones point for something being natural. I do not, nor does the Christian that has been born again at the foot of the Cross, believe this. Nor is there any scientific proof that this position of naturalism is true. Theories abound, but give it a few years and you'll have even more theories to choose from. This isn't even counting the ones that were valid in their day, but are no longer valid.

Only scripture stands, the test of time, since it cannot be disproved. Yet scripture was not meant to provide us the answers to this, Creationism business. As you notice if you read the first few chapters, it was not meant for the scientist, but was written in such a way that even the most simple of people can understand what is being said. They might disagree with what is being said, but at least they can understand what is being said. This goes on to another subject, that you are welcome to delve into here at TJ.

As much as one of the world would want to believe that being homosexual or lesbian occurs at birth, there is no supporting evidence provided by science for this position. But let's argue your point for you and expand it to include pedophilia or bestiality which is only the tip of the iceberg. Are these natural as well? Ask the proponents of this, and there are more than you realize, and you know there answer would be no different. So, then everything is okay since it is natural! Where does one take a stand to what is acceptable or not?

Sexuality if left to man to determine the boundaries. Would be no boundaries at all. Man is not born with the ability to control their appetites when it comes to the flesh (pleasure). That is why what the Christian believes is not drawn from what the creation has stated is acceptable, but is guided by the Creator through His Holy Word. The Bible.

Not being a Christian yourself, it must be very hard to understand how the Christian who says they love everyone, reflects the opposite in their actions and words. I can agree, that with many the level of abhorrence rises to point where it overshadows the love that should be shown to those who not only perform, but support this behavior as being acceptable and natural. This is most sad. Why? For these same professing Christians do not reflect the same level of abhorrence to other sins, i.e. adultery, sexual relations outside of marriage, stealing, lying, murder. The list goes on. Because the level of dislike, hate, to immoral behavior is not at the same level of the other behaviors this is seen as being an inconsistency with those on the outside looking in. I'd agree!

It doesn't however change that the behaviors mentioned are wrong according to God who has told us so. You might think us foolish, unintelligent, and use some of the same names, used by many, but it doesn't change what we see as being wrong. The difference is that we remember all too well our own deficiencies and sins. Some even in this current area of discussion, which you can see. However, with the believer in Christ Jesus. It or they no longer define us to who we are now! No, not perfect. Many fall and crawl and continue through a process of change that happens once we come to Him. Now we have hope in succeeding, because our efforts have assistance and guidance that was inaccessible before. I would continue on this subject of how we are helped, but to you it would have no meaning just like "Born Again" does not. (You can find out about that here at TJ as well)

So, what it comes down to is do we adhere to standards as seen in creation or do we follow a higher calling which comes from the Creator? To those who adhere to scripture, you know the answer. To those who do not, you also know the answer.

Everyone is given a choice to believe or not. Praying that even though you might disagree with the position on morality, that you might look at the foundation which is the Gospel, in Christ Jesus. Please don't toss away, something that is priceless and eternal. For something that is temporal and finite.
Truly with the Love of Christ.

I did say that homosexuality is natural, and that it being natural made it acceptable.

However pedphilia and whatnot are natural as well.

The difference is that, well, the others mentioned are harmful.

That is when things become unacceptable.

Homosexuality is not stabbing you in the gut, homosexuality is not raping children, homosexuality is just... Homosexuality

However, homosexuals can do all of the above... Heterosexuals can too.

If a homosexual were to do one of these, does that make homosexuality evil, or the person?
Obviously just the person.

I never said I wasn't Christian
So :/
Kinda jumped to conclusions there, eh?

I do understand what it means to be "born again".
Therefore it does have meaning to me, thank you.

You're completely contradicting the Bible. GOD is Holy, He sets the moral stands not your nor any man. Your statements and claims that homosexuality is "natural" and "acceptable" is a total lie of the devil.

Otaku; said:

Based on what? Your opinion? Certainly not the bible.

Otaku; said:

You're not a Christian when you deliberately, willfully contradict GOD's Word and twist the truth. That's what the devil does. Let's see what GOD has to say that, in CLOSING of the book of Revelation.

Revelation 22:18–19
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in rthe holy city, which are described in this book.

Otaku; said:

What does "born again" mean to you?

Otaku; said:

You need psychological help. This statement alone is quite disturbing to say the least. I don't know how you have the audacity to call yourself a Christian and make such a disgusting statement that pedophilia is "natural". Try saying that from the pulpit, or say on a megaphone in Times Square. You'd get arrested on the spot. Go read the Bible and stop making up your own moral basis for what is natural and not natural.

Among other things, this highlights the weakness of using ideas about what is natural and unnatural to decide moral questions. Drinking cows milk is definitely unnatural, yet not a moral issue for most people.

If we want to look beyond the authority of the Bible, we can probably do better than talk about what is natural and unnatural.

In these kinds of conversations we need to be very careful in our choice of words and in our assumptions. natural does not always equal good, and not everything unnatural is bad.

I can see a similar kind of assumption with the link between change and choice. People's sexual orientation often does change. That does not necessarily mean that it's a personal choice.

Among other things, this highlights the weakness of using ideas about what is natural and unnatural to decide moral questions.

Exactly. What does "natural" have to do with anything? Are space craft natural? Computers? Jets? These are not moral or immoral in themselves, Only how people
use them. For that natter, it is "natural" for people to sin. In fact, the fact that we do sin continually even though we never need to is proof of the human condition
and proof that we need a savior.
Floods, tornadoes and earthquakes are natural, does that make them good?

Sure it is! Easy examples to show you. Cats & Dogs. They mate irrespective of affiliation or age. Take the penguins. They engage in Necrophilia. Dolphins participate in organized rape. The Chimpanzees will attack other tribes and have eaten some of those they have attacked. Not out of hunger either! Want me to go on? Me neither.

I hope you're not saying even though these actions are done by humans as well, that's it's okay because it can be found in nature, and nature is natural? Of cause not and I believe you!

The difference is that, well, the others mentioned are harmful.

I hope you can agree with me that looking at nature is not the best source for determining the right and wrong of something. The real question becomes. If nature and we ourselves are incapable of making said determination, how do we determine right and wrong? You might have another answer, but for me it's to look outside ourselves; outside of nature. The bridge didn't always exist to do this, but someone came along about 2,000 years ago and built it. I'm sure you know who I'm speaking about.

I never said I wasn't Christian

First, I must apologize. You are correct. I jumped to assumptions, though in truth they were made because of your own words in your bio. So for that I stand corrected. However, if you are a Christian, it would probably be better not to write in the third person when mentioning Christians as you did in your bio. It's as if you're saying I'm over here and Christians are over there. Separate from us. For if you're not separate, I would call you sister, and I would be your brother in Christ Jesus. Helping you to understand the Word of God and to walk with Him, which I would hope you would do the same for me no matter how old I am or young you are. Our walk in Christ Jesus has never been about age I see where you're coming from. I just hope you can see where I'm at.

Right, Wrong, lies, truth have never been about seeing it through our eyes, but through the eyes of God.

Well you and I will have to agree to disagree on this topic. Anyway there are many gay Christians, I am acquainted with several Anglican priests who are gay.
Supporting incorrect behavior by showing other incorrect behavior does not make your case. All it shows is unrepentant Christians. Which is no Christian at all.

  • I say that homosexuality is a sin and not a Biblical definition for marriage.
  • Yours is a typical left reaction to call me a homophobe. I don't fear you, I pitty you. God teaches to hate the sin but love the sinner.
  • I agree, there will be many homosexual Christians go to heaven but, the differnce in them and you, is that they, though perhaps still struggling with their sin, they have a repentant and regenerated heart and wanting to change. You , on the other hand, are not repentant and regenerated because Christ is not living in you.
  • This is a TJ and a Christian site and your un-repentant stance tells me your not a Christian.
  • The normal Christian definition of a marriage being between a Man and a Woman is not adequate because it does not tell the whole of Biblical marriage. The truth of a Christian marriage and why you are not one, is that, a true Christian marriage is between a Man , a Woman and Christ.
  • If you are a true "Change Agent" you will has Christ to come in to your heart and regenerate your spirit; i pray you do so!
