Speaking in Tongues: Required for Regeneration?.

I have respect for Andrew Strom - he is a Pentecostal pastor originally from New Zealand and preaches sound doctrine.
Fortunately I am Pentecostal and not charismatic.
Worth pointing out that most, if not all, the weird and wonderful mutations of Christianity begin in the U.S.A.
As an outsider I have observed that religion is somewhat strange in America.

So then you do not trust in the idea of sign gifts like a charismatic?

What kind of Pentecostal are you?

Where did your idea of tongues originate ? Isiah 28 the foundation of the doctrine or law revisited spoken of in 1 Corinthians 14 :28 ?

21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

If we cannot understand his interpretation how could we prove anything ? A person would be left wondering, wondering, marveling not coming to the end of their new born again faith. . the salvation of our soul .Its how the the limbo and purgatory got its idea . No salvation in sight no faith or understanding that could please God .Just baby talk
“How could we prove anything” …outside of God’s Word and some man’s interpretation of it?
Easy. The Holy Spirit that fills me testifies. That’s proof enough for me….and should be proof enough for anyone….IF they are truly Spirit filled.
“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,” - Romans 8:16

No needs for refills
Really? Can you explain why the disciples were “filled with the Holy Spirit” on 3 separate and distinct occasions….and for obviously different reasons?

First time: in John 20:22 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

Second time: Jesus actually instructs the disciples to go and tarry in the city until they “be imbued with power from on high” from the outpouring of the Holy Spirit which was promised. (Luke 24:49). Wait, weren’t they already filled with the Holy Spirit? Hadn’t Jesus breathed upon them and filled them….before He ascended?

Third time: Acts 4:31 - “And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.”

My God is THE God of “MORE”!
scripture teaches that He never leaves His children and His chosen in the same spiritual state. He is always bringing us/them to higher and deeper places. He is always equipping the Saints for greater works in His kingdom….to bring glory to Him. So yes….for a willing and faithful servant of God, there is always a need to keep going back to the well.

God is not served by human hands as a will . He is of one mind and always does whatsoever his soul desires. No man can turn him . Don't forget he makes our hearts soft by a work of his Spirit . God is self serving

It was a sign to the Jews, not a sign against them as you said.
And, we are supposed to obey God.

I am not promoting getting drunk .

No way does the scriptures call it drunk in the Spirit, and no way are we to act drunk.

Isaiah 28 :1-2 Look at Samaria! The drunks of Ephraim are proud of that city. It sits on a hill with a rich valley around it. The Samarians think their city is a beautiful crown of flowers. But they are drunk with wine, and this “beautiful crown” is just a dying plant.
It is wrong to think this scripture promotes what you are saying about getting drunk on the Spirit.
Slain in the spirit is how they mock God who in return mocks them . They proclaim the word of God is nothing but a series of baby noises , in the same way he answers them (not giving them the understanding of faith ).

No such teaching in the Bible. You are speaking what men of no understanding taught you.

In your seemingly rabid pursuit of attempting to show everyone how "wrong" they are about tongues, spiritual gifts, and modern manifestations of the Holy Spirit.....you fail to even realize that @Garee is actually on your side of this issue.
He doesn't believe in those things either. In fact, he has used up much bandwidth here with his long, cryptic explanations for why he believes tongues have ceased.

Your insults are no defense for any truth.

I am strengthening those who know the truth, and the Holy Spirit is convicting others who are in the wrong.
No you are not doing this. You are working against God and denying the gospel of salvation.
The Holy Spirit is alive and well and millions of people are being born from above by water and the Spirit with the Bible evidence of praying in tongues.
You can blog on all you want but in the real world Pentecostal revival is happening big time.

Acts 5:38 So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail;
39 but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice,

God’s truth keeps us close to Him and Jesus Christ, not false practices where people fool themselves into feeling closer, such as with fake tongues.

Don't you find it funny....or even ironic that on the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out and those who were filled spoke in tongues, even those who gathered and who claimed to know God, didn't understand what they were seeing so they tried to discredit it.? They accused those who were experiencing Spirit baptism and speaking in tongues, of being "drunk on new wine." That is, until Peter set them straight about what was happening.
2000 years later, and not much has changed, has it?

There were Jews who did understand.
As for the false teachings about being drunk in the Spirit---the people doing this false act are actually acting drunk and call it drunk in the Spirit.

No insult intended. I was simply pointing out the obvious. You're the one attacking/discrediting the posts of people who actually agree with you.
If I misunderstood someone, then it is for that person to tell me. I can't go by what someone else says about someone else's beliefs.

A real one.

What makes it real? Is it he wonder of filling not coming to end of faith the salvation of owns soul ? Needing a weekly fill-up?

Believers of a Holy Spirit filled church receive the fullness of grace from the first hearing of the gospel . How could adding words without understanding increase that labor of Christ love.? More wondering?

1 Peter 1:9-11 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

We look back by faith as it is written they looked ahead using the same power of faith, Christ in us the hope of His glory .

Why would a person desire to glory in wondering, marveling rather than believing as a anchor to our new born again soul ?

not false practices where people fool themselves into feeling closer, such as with fake tongues.
God the father and God the Son both dwell within me by the Holy Spirit - the Comforter.
It does not get any closer than this.
Fortunately also I pray in real tongues.

God's Truth keep us close to Him, not fake tongues.
Obedience and surrender keep us close to Him.....not false wisdom and false knowledge of His Word.
Obedience.....as in to Paul's instruction to the Church here written about 20 years after Jesus had ascended......
"Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues." - 1Corinthians 14:39
