Dear Brother @Chad
Interesting responses to your poll brother!
It's also a difficult one to quantify, because of the use of the word "Liberal" and what we who live in the U.S.A. have seen it as meaning, against how others in other countries see being a Liberal means.
Still, if they would use the opening guide you provided, in understanding the positions named, they'd hopefully see how we who live here explain many of the dividing lines that exist between what is acceptable against what is not. Are Christians & Conservatism mutually exclusive? No, but in the greater amount of instances, the Liberal and Conservative be they Christian or not seek personal freedoms as their focal point of interest. However, it's how far the freedoms are allowed to go and in what areas, is where we find the differences and these dividing lines.
At one time these differences for the most part could be discussed. Sadly, that is no longer the case. The Far-Left or Far Right seem to have taken over any discussions we might have had in the past, and have moved them into the area of litigation. That is why as some have mentioned the areas that allowed the balance of ideas/beliefs are now being challenged and being brought forward to have changed, i.e. Electoral College, Number of Supreme Court Justices. People who live in other countries might do well to come to understand these particular topics, if they desire to understand, the balance that U.S.A. and it's Government teeter upon.
Still, the basic concern of believers are still relevant to the day and to say otherwise, is to be living with blinders on. I don't care where a person may be from, be it U.S.A., UK, Europe, Africa, China, etc. the believer should stand to be counted on the side of righteousness, which by doing so allows the spread of the Gospel to the ends of the Earth. So, that all may hear and call upon the name of the Lord to be Saved! I have yet to see any overtly controlled Government allow Christianity free reign. In fact the more Government, there happens to be, greater it appears are the restrictions placed upon Christianity. Still, even adversity will not stop His Word from spreading or getting out!!! It will only be more difficult that's all to the faithful that step out in faith!
In the U.S.A it clearly has come down to a two party system. The Democrats/Republicans with a mishmash of other parties which lean from far left through far right in what they stand for. I count myself an Independent, even though the state I vote in only allows me to vote in the General Election and not the primaries. In those elections I usually find myself voting for the Republican candidate. They either are professes of their faith in Jesus, or stand for values that align more with Biblical principals. Needless to say they rarely if ever win in this state I live in. Still, I try to stay faithful, to those who do attempt to enter this arena called politics, and call Jesus their Lord and Savior. So, I caste my vote in their favor.
Now one would think that the biggest item on the list to touch ones heart should be Abortion. Yet, it's not a new story for humanity. Given on how its been done throughout history, the method now used is actually more "humane", if one can call it being done for any reason or method "humane". An example is Ancient Rome, where the unwanted babies would just be tossed in the gutter. No, humanity has not changed much, over the years. Just the method, less trying for our sensibilities to, if not accept, at least to not be too overly concerned about as we live our every day lives. Lord we need you!!!
Each subject could be broken down as it has been done in the opening post and grey areas found if one were to phrase it just so. That would allow a believer to almost question what is true and righteous way for us to walk in. We have what we need to do so, but too often relegate it to the back seat. Bringing it out only in Church, or maybe here while posting, but surely not enough to say "our feelings" placed against His Word, just might be what is wrong. So, follow His Word we should, no matter how we may feel, or how the World tells us it ought to be.
That's why I appreciate you brother for following up the article with subject Bible verses on some of the subjects. It's easy to get emotional on some of these issues, and then the name calling begins. Keep it in light of Scripture, and then all we'll be doing if we let our feelings override Scripture, is arguing with God. We know who wins then
God bless you brother and all that you do for us.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.
