Christian or Catholic?

We are ONLY brothers and sisters if we are Born of GOD! Hard to tell who is and who is not?
Many are tricked by different groups?

ok i understand now that there are certain differences between christians and catholics but the important thing is that they both believe in Jesus Christ being the son of God and that he died on the cross in order to save us all and wants us to be one whole family
But satan is even an eyewitness to those facts, he believes it but is not saved
The difference is fully trusting in the shed blood of Jesus for redemption, groups that teach there must be works or rituals involved are adding to the gospel
even two twins who are born from the same mother and have the same upbringing differ from each other so we couldn't expect there will be no difference between all people who believe in christ but one thing is common that whether you are a christian or a catholic they both are taught to love one another and to do good to one another.
Love is good but for there to be true fellowship there must be the rebirth.
The rebirth at conversion is fully trusting in Jesus' shed blood to cover our sin(s). God looks at us and sees the blood of Christ sprinkled upon the mercy seat in heaven. When we hand over our dead selves to God and He exchanges it with the resurrection of Jesus, our spirits are quickened to new life in Christ.
Only those converted at their salvation experience find a brother/sisterhood fellowship with those also converted, they are of the same parent.
God had done good to his enemies so instead of fighting with each other lets focus on those things that bring these two views of religions together and instead of threating each other like enemies lets help one another and be a one whole family. Jesus always taught us to love one another and the only thing that differs us from God are the things contrary to what he teaches us like hate, killings, consider each other like enemies, and above all judging each other.
Christians truly saved by the blood of Christ's covering
have many things in common with catholicism such as the trinity, virgin birth, crucifixion, resurrection, against abortion, etc...
But we do differ on how to get to heaven, it is not through works, sacraments, or other rituals. Our salvation is a one moment in time event, we can know that we know as we walk in Christ.
We do not have to have our sins purged in purgatory or depend upon any mediator other than Jesus himself.
Whether we are christians or catholics we have all the same father which is God who love us all. He doesn't give us extra points by being a christian or a catholic but he will give us extra points if instead of spreading violence we will be spreading love and instead of searching for differences between us we will be searching the things that bring us together. After all we are all brother and sisters.
Those born again in Jesus have the same father, Rome forbids this and denies christian salvation through their creeds at Trent.

(anathema means cursed in hell forever)

  1. CANON 9: "If any one says, that by Faith Alone the sinner is Justified; in such wise as to mean, that nothing else is required to co-operate in order to the obtaining the grace of Justification, and that it is not in any way necessary, that he be prepared and disposed by the movement of his own will; let him be anathema (damned forever)."

    1. Rom 3:20 God doesn't accept people simply because they obey the Law. No, indeed! All the Law does is to point out our sin.
    2. Rom 3:24 But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins.
    3. Rom 3:28 We see that people are acceptable to God because they have faith, and not because they obey the Law.
    4. Rom 4:3 The Scriptures say, "God accepted Abraham because Abraham had faith in him."
    5. Rom 5:1 By faith we have been made acceptable to God. And now, because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God.
    6. Eph 2:8 You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God's gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own.
    7. Tit 3:5 He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things that we have done. God washed us by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning.
  1. CANON 12: "If any sinner shall say that Justifying Faith is nothing else than full Confidence in the Divine Mercy pardoning Sins of Jesus Christ, or that it is that Confidence Alone by which we are Justified ... let him be accursed"
    1. John 1:12 Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God.
    2. Rom 3:28 We see that people are acceptable to God because they have faith, and not because they obey the Law.
    3. Rom 4:3 The Scriptures say, "God accepted Abraham because Abraham had faith in him."
    4. Heb 7:25 He is forever able to save the people he leads to God, because he always lives to speak to God for them.
Heb 7:26 Jesus is the high priest we need. He is holy and innocent and faultless, and not at all like us sinners. Jesus is honored above all beings in heaven,
Heb 7:27 and he is better than any other high priest. Jesus doesn't need to offer sacrifices each day for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. He offered a sacrifice once for all, when he gave himself.
    5. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have 2Ti 1:12 That's why I am suffering now. But I am not ashamed! I know the one I have faith in, and I am sure that he can guard until the last day what he has trusted me with.
  2. Canon 14: "If any one says, that one is Truly Absolved from his sins and is Justified, because he assuredly believes himself absolved and justified; or, that no one is truly justified but he who believes himself justified; and that, by this Faith Alone, absolution and justification are effected; let him be anathema (damned forever)."
    1. Rom 4:3 The Scriptures say, "God accepted Abraham because Abraham had faith in him."
    2. Rom 5:1 By faith we have been made acceptable to God. And now, because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God.
  3. Canon 23: "lf any one says that once justified one can sin no more, nor lose grace, and that therefore he that falls and sins was never truly justified; or, on the other hand, that he is able, during his whole life, to avoid all sins, even those that are venial,- except by a special privilege from God, as the Church holds in regard of the Blessed Virgin Mary; let him be anathema (damned forever)."
    1. John 3:36 Everyone who has faith in the Son has eternal life. But no one who rejects him will ever share in that life, and God will be angry with them forever.
    2. John 6:40 My Father wants everyone who sees the Son to have faith in him and to have eternal life. Then I will raise them to life on the last day.
    3. John 10:28 and I give them eternal life, so that they will never be lost. No one can snatch them out of my hand.
    4. Romans 5:21 Sin ruled by means of death. But God's kindness now rules, and God has accepted us because of Jesus Christ our Lord. This means that we will have eternal life.
    5. 1 John 2:19 These people came from our own group, yet they were not part of us. If they had been part of us, they would have stayed with us. But they left, which proves that they did not belong to our group.
    6. 1 John 5:13 All of you have faith in the Son of God, and I have written to let you know that you have eternal life.
  4. Canon 24 "If any one says that justice received is not preserved and also increased before God through Good Works; but that the said works are merely the fruits and signs of Justification obtained, but not a cause of the increase thereof; let him be anathema (damned forever)."
    1. Gal 3:1 You stupid Galatians! I told you exactly how Jesus Christ was nailed to a cross. Has someone now put an evil spell on you?
Gal 3:2 I want to know only one thing. How were you given God's Spirit? Was it by obeying the Law of Moses or by hearing about Jesus Christ and having faith in him?
Gal 3:3 How can you be so stupid? Do you think that by yourself you can complete what God's Spirit started in you?
    2. Gal 5:1 Jesus Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don't ever become slaves of the Law again.
Gal 5:2 I, Paul, promise you that Jesus Christ won't do you any good if you get circumcised.
Gal 5:3 If you do, you must obey the whole Law.
  5. Canon 30: "If any one says that, after the grace of Justification has been received, to every penitent sinner the guilt is remitted, and the debt of eternal punishment is blotted out in such a way that there remains not any debt of temporal punishment to be discharged either in this world, or in the next in Purgatory, before the entrance to the kingdom of heaven can be opened (to him); let him be anathema (damned forever)."
    1. Rom 5:11 And in addition to everything else, we are happy because God sent our Lord Jesus Christ to make peace with us.
    2. Col 2:13 You were dead, because you were sinful and were not God's people. But God let Christ make you alive, when he forgave all our sins.
Col 2:14 God wiped out the charges that were against us for disobeying the Law of Moses. He took them away and nailed them to the cross.
  6. Canon 33: "If any one says that Catholic doctrines and teachings on Justification, by this holy Synod inset forth in this present decree, the glory of God, or the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ are in any way derogated from, and not rather that the truth of our faith, and the glory in fine of God and of Jesus Christ are rendered (more) illustrious; let him be anathema (damned forever).

Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Rom 14:20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.
Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit

This for told of SALVATION!
Eze 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
Eze 18:31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Joh 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
MEANING WE ONLY FOLLOW OUR LORD!
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

WE do not trust others We seek the Truth from our LORD and Master And HE Never fails us!
We only need ask HIM!

Thank You Chad "It is the truth that will set them free"
I have never realy understood the catholic thing other than some evils have been intertwinned with this religion and the whole secretacy vowels and praying to someone other than our high priest JESUS seemed so odd to me.

You offend their souls for eternity if you fail to tell them the truth.I truly believe sometimes it takes tough love to bring someone to the truth and protect them from horrific consequences.

Your post is right showing them how to divide the word of truth and help

Nessia even satanist believe in Jesus and read the word .That does not make them saved.Even demons believe on Jesus and profess he is the son of GOD and they know he died on the cross for our salvation.

Mormons,Jehovah Wittness believe this also it's all the other things they have intertwinned or added to the word that has corrupted it.
There are some great scripture posted here you should pray about and ask God to show you the truth about his word, about idolatry, and about rightly dividing the word.

Nessina There Is only one Point and it is through the blood sacrifice of Christ our One and only High Priest. It's not through any other person, idoltry worship, religious system, that we obtain salvation. The two greastest commandments are to Love you are right but the bible also says if we fail to correct our children we do not Love them.

Sometimes it takes tough love to wake a person up to their sense's. Just like when my baby was in the NICU I meet other young parents who were mad because the day came for there baby to go home but they had not followed the nurses and doctors instructions instead of them sleeping all night and running all over town they could have been at the hospital bonding and assuming care for there baby they chose not to show care they thought the nicu was suppose to do all the work. However the doctors, nurses, and social worker could not send the baby home because if they could not show responsibilty for there baby's with help how could they perform care by themselves.Tough love came into play when the doctor would give them the truth about the baby's needs, their responsibilty, made to go to parenting class to get newborn care info and then home health nurse sent out for a month to monitor care. They had to be woke up because it could cost a life babies die from failure to thrive.

People die from failure of the truth and reality, they fail to thrive and be feed the word of truth.Unless tough love comes in to play people die. Christ was love but he was tough love when it came to the Father's work.He did not mix words. He told it like it was because he was concerned about truth and life.

Chad Christ was very outspoken when it comes to the Fathers business we are to be about it just like him Thanks Again.

Roman Catholicism makes me very angry because I cannot break through with the truth to people who have been in it since birth. It is a terrible stronghold. They do not have peace with God and do not know where they will end up when they die. One minute they believe in God and the next they aren't even sure there is God or they think he doesn't hear them. But they say Protestants have a different Bible and I read them both so I know the only difference is a few added books we don't have in the OT. But what bugs me is that they won't look into both of them. They say they don't want to argue. Im not even arguing, I just don't understand such a closed mind. They want the peace, they want to be assured, but they will go no farther because they are "good" Catholics. We are excused because we are just poor protestants, not "allowed" or taught to pray to Mary, the Saints, and the dead relatives, and we are taught wrong. They pity us for that. Our churches are to blame and we cannot be held accountable that we are not Catholics, they think. I was told that it is a shame that we aren't taught to pray to all these other people. It is so awful that they do not even want to seek the truth. The Catholic church was stated as another Christian denomination in our church the other day and I do NOT agree with this at all. There is too much wrong with it. Yes, they somehow think about Jesus on the cross, but why are they still all mixed up, even the ones who do read the Bible, if there are many of those, now that they are allowed to read it. They are still held in this cult. I am sorry to insult anyone, but I see the damage this causes and the people have no mind of their own. Only what the priests say holds any weight. It is frustrating for me and I am tired of listening to them and them not listening to me. Only God can get them out of this but they resist so much. But they want peace but won't do anything about it for themselves. And then I get chided about living a holy life or going home to pray ALL weekend. I can pray for them to ask me about God, but that is all. Otherwise Im keeping quiet from now on. They close the door on my conversation over and over so from now on its through prayer. I cannot make a dent in their thinking. But I feel very bad for them because there is the gospel to serve to them. Its like a banquet I want to invite them to and they don't want to come, even turn down my invitation to look over the food.

I needed this thread to vent. Im extremely frustrated with this whole system of Roman Catholicism. I don't even think my pastor knows the extent of the absudity of their teaching. (example, Mary's immaculate conception and her assumption into heaven). He thinks they are a Christian denomination. How can they be????? Maybe Im wrong. He says there are Christians in the Catholic Church, but Im not sure because what Christian could sit for long in the pews of a Catholic church once they know the truth???? Infant baptism saves them??? The baby goes to limbo if not baptized????? Purgatory is where you go and then you have to be prayed out of there?????? They pay for this????? What DO they think of Jesus, really????

I live in the Philippines; 80% of the people who live here are Catholics, 10% Born Again Christians. (Only my estimate on the BACs) The biggest struggle I've faced in witnessing is talking to devout Catholics, they are so engulfed in their idea that "Catholicism has everything a person need" or "I'm a Catholic all my life, why convert now?"; it's hard when you keep banging on a brick wall, because most of them have closed minds. They just give you the "Just respect my religion" sort of thing.

All I can do is pray for them. We have to keep in mind that it is not our job to convert people but rather only to be used as instruments by God to do His will, because it is His job to convict the hearts of the unbelievers.

Thank you Chad, I've been blessed by your post. Continue to be a blessing for others.

All glory to God! :)

Matthew 3 (NIV)

John the Baptist Prepares the Way
1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea 2 and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near. 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:A voice of one calling in the desert,'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' 4 John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt round his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptised by him in the Jordan River. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptising, he said to them: You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The axe is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing-floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

On Sunday we were discussing this at lunch and I was frustrated with the whole thing again. I was reminded by someone of a couple who are Catholics but really believe in Jesus. But I said how can they remain in the Catholic church? Today I believe that God has answered that for me. They are Christians but they will stay baby Christians in that church, they will not grow beyond the confines of the lies of the Catholic church. They will stay frustrated and confused by the Catholic churches teachings and the shortcomings of Catholic rituals and sermons that never really satisfy. They are locked in due to their upbringing and family tradition to be Catholic over Christian. But I cannot say they are NOT Christians because they are baby Christians and cannot progress, even though they want to. They need to go to a church where the truth is preached -- that Jesus plus nothing saves.

As for me trying to break through to other Catholics, I do need to remind myself that it is not my job to change their minds on the erroneous teachings and turn their lives over to Christ. All I can do with those I work for is present myself in a way they see Christ in me and pray that they will ask questions, and pray that they be open to the answers I give. I have to wait until they question, since the door is now closed. I cannot do the Holy Spirits job. They are drawn by God, not by me, to salvation. Also, I need to pray for strength to stay the course and not let this get to me. I cannot change the whole world, even if I would like to.

Luke 18 (NIV)

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:
10 Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men- robbers, evildoers, adulterers- or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
13 But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
14 I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

There are many levels in relationship with the Father.

In my Fathers house are many mansions; or Greek abiding place. All people have a different abiding place. My place is not to condemn that abiding place but to seek, ask and knock to know God in a deeper abiding place that I am now. If God has not called you in another deeper abiding place/spiritual room/spiritual plane/deeper understanding then that is all you can understand. Many are shallow, superficial, and religious or even carnal; but that is where God has placed them; only God’s Spirit has that power to draw all men to Himself to those higher levels. If you have stopped seeking, and decided there is no more, then there isn’t any more in your eyes.

This is demonstrated in many ways in scripture; 30, 60 one hundred fold, Passover, Pentecost and then Tabernacles; how many have received Passover message and reject God’s Pentecost, how many have received Pentecost and go back to Passover message; not knowing there is always more. There is also a deeper message called The Feast of Tabernacles; why were these celebrations called feast; perhaps God wants to sup with us but we dare not press on. How hungry are you, how deep do you really trust God, or are you satisfied with the doctrines of men.

Romans 8:18-21 (MSG) That's why I don't think there's any comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. The created world itself can hardly wait for what's coming next. Everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens.

22-25All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it's not only around us; it's within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We're also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance. That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don't see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.

Thank you Chad for this thread. Read the OP and a few replies, so what I say may well have already been said.

I firmly believe that The RCC (or Romanist church) is the prophesied Babylon. There are many, many references in the Bible to the Romanist church and its characteristics (including a claim to be Queen of Heaven).

Yet, Revelation is clear that God does have His people within Babylon. Not all, maybe many, maybe few, but they are "called forth", to leave Babylon before God pours His wrath upon the *****.

I know that, much like your original post, that Catholics may find such descriptions hard. But how can the true believers leave Romanism if other true believers shy from the Truth.

Thanks Chad,
Mark.

The Word of God pronounces a curse on those who worship the queen of heaven:
Jer 44:17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
Jer 44:18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
Jer 44:19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?
Jer 44:20 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,
Jer 44:21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?
Jer 44:22 So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
Jer 44:23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.
Jer 44:24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
Jer 44:25 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
Jer 44:26 Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Jer 44:27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

I can't remember her name, but in the early days, Nimrod's mother claimed that she was the Queen of Heaven, the Only One. She claimed that she gave birth to Nimrod without ever knowing a man (a claim she made knowing that the Messiah would come from a virgin, based on the passage in Genesis).

Here lies the source of the Mother/Child God, and explains why there are so many "black Madonnas".

Nimrod was the founder of Babel, and was the mastermind of the infamous tower, where men attempted to storm heaven and by-pass the need for the LORD.

(Important note: this is not based on the contents of the Bible, although there are allusions to it in Scripture, but on related historical documents not included in the Canon).

Mark.

Amen, I agree with your observation Chad. Most people overrated the verse DO NOT JUDGE and never form their opinion or take their time to know the truth by reading and understanding God's word.

Amen. :wink:Regarding prayers to people; Isaiah 8:19, "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should a people not inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?"

Hi,
I have been trying for some time now without sucess to get my parents who are catholics understand the futility of worshiping mary and all the dead saints but to no use, they are deep in to catholic belief and they just refuse to even listen to me. In india the catholic church is even more bad due to influene of hinduism, we have so many alleged sighting's of mary and so many churches dedicated to her, infact nobody seems to be bothered about christ, it's mary all the way. God anoint you by His Spirit Alex, remember the prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working (James 5:16)

Chad,
Thank you for this excellent study on Catholicism. My two best friends are Catholic and I've been struggling to find the appropriate resources to help me witness to them. I will definitely use some of the logic you've presented in this post, in addition to the Catechism book I've just purchased and another book entitled, "Conversations with Catholics" by James G. McCarthy. If you haven't read it, I would highly recommend it. I've even purchased copies for my two friends and am trying to get up the nerve to give them their copies. Again, thanks for sharing this post with us.
Grace and peace to you,
Amy

So if a man is a Jesus only believer, and a woman is a believer in the Trinity, but they are both saved, and they both live for God and want to get married, is that a reason not to get married? Could the trinitarian woman stilll go to the man's church and worship Jesus? Or would this be too much conflict in the marriage?
