Is Hell just separation from God or a place of horrendous eternal punishment as the Bible states?

Christians must lay their lives down like Jesus did?

False doctrine!

False teaching!

Not one of His is required to pay the price Jesus paid for us! Otherwise, self sacrifice is required instead of that of Jesus. He paid it for us!

What is going on here?

CHALLENGE the Devil, saints! Don't just sit there letting such egregious lying go on! That poster is a false teacher.

Who are YOU to call some one the devil? Where is your love? He is a brother in the Lord.

That is quite an accusation. I feel you have a reading and English comprehension problem. It is the reason you read ''God will torture'' in scripture.

I quote Matt 16:24 and Rev 2:10 in respect of needing to lay our lives down for God. Both these verses speak to a required depth of intent being one able to lay our lives down for God.

Matt 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me''.
Rev 2:10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

If you oppose me so harshly, I imagine you believe you are a Christian because you have magical faith or attend the right church?

Fickle Christians will not survive what is coming. Many Christians need to re-visit their dedication to Jesus.

Please read this post to understand what a false teacher is False teachers.

It is a harsher accusation then Matt 5:22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, 'Raca,' is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

I find the false teaching accusation so ironic. I simply cannot believe that their are people calling themselves Christians who teach that God tortures His enemies when He tells us to love ours. There cannot be a bigger fail of representing God.

A Christian has ''ONE'' job. Properly represent God. That is why I have contributed over ten thousand words to this thread.

Laying our lives down for Jesus is false teaching? Is this not a Christian site? Christianity 101 is giving our ''ALL'' to Jesus.

Yep - and the rest on this site sit on their hands. I find Dovegiven ( sorry to mention you but you give me no choice) devoid of Christian love, smug and sanctimonious and by the way so are a few more on this site including one fragile, immature, baby Christian member of staff. No wonder there are screaming matches when some Christians get together. Every one has their own view point or pet doctrine and instead of debating calmly and Christ like it is my way or you are banned. Which is absurd because you can just change your avatar and re register. I think many on this site need to when participating in " the breaking of bread" on Sunday think about Jesus laying down His life for us so that we can be like Him to a lost and dying world. Even though we disagree on some issues i think your debating talents, deep insights and liberal teachings are wasted here. This place is an "Echo Chamber."

@KingJ It's not really the matter of how many words a person contributes to this thread -- it's what's being said.

A Christians' #1 job -- opportunity -- calling -- is to / should be / to share the Gospel of / unto / salvation to all who are willing to listen. It's then up to the individual to accept or reject the salvation which is freely offered to All. Those who share will be laughed at, ridiculed, many are killed, persecuted in various ways, etc. And Lots of people Will listen and Will accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. And Will grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

And, yes, God is a loving, just, holy, all-knowing / all-powerful / all-present ( Omni-present) God

The Gospel = Jesus Christ is the Son of God who is "God-in-the-flesh / God with us" who died on the cross for our sins, was buried and rose again bodily on the 3rd day. No good works done by us will help gain our salvation. Jesus Christ did it all. We acknowledge our need and accept His remedy for our sins. And thank Him for it.

Our attitude Should be that of willingness to do / obey God's leading in our lives. No matter what that entails. Lots of people have and still do lay down their lives for Christ so that others Will live, And some are still being given the choice of 'deny Christ ' or be will to Die and they choose To die because they know that when they Do die, they are in the presence of Jesus Christ immediately,

I,m not in any way referring to you. i find your theology quite sound and you have been well taught. As far as banning is concerned - nope i would not like to be banned. However i participate and write articles on many sites some secular with over ten million readers and others religious with around 500 000 members. Some of my articles pick up 2 000 comments in 24 hours. And i have written probably nearly a thousand articles that have been published. Even so this might be a tiny site but i find the interaction quite pleasing. And the main moderator seems quite reasonable and chilled.

You just contradicted yourself from #168.

Today we have two predominant Christian viewpoints on hell. One is the horrendous traditional Biblical view and the other a modern more merciful form of Hell. Which one is correct? The Traditional one is that Hell (Gehenna) is the second death and a place of fiery torment and weeping and gnashing of teeth. Ten thousand centuries will come and go, and not one day in Hell will have ended. In the amount of time it takes a new universe to expand and collapse, not a single evening in the furnace of Hell will have gone by.

In Hell, you’ll have nothing to do, and nothing to think about except your rebellious past and how you rejected your Creator, Lord and Saviour. In addition to all the unceasing and unspeakable pain you’ll be feeling, you will have the added despair of knowing that the life you lived in the flesh was completely in vain. You will be fully conscious and awake to experience a nightmare above any nightmare you ever experienced while alive. And just when you think you can’t take anymore, an eternity of suffering awaits you still.

Revelation 21:8 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.”

Matthew 13:50 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Mark 9:43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.

Jude 1:7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Matthew 25:41 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

Revelation 19:20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulphur.

In the future, when God judges the wicked angels along with evil humanity, then hell, (Gehenna) will become inhabited. At the moment Hell is empty. Of course for obvious reason this view is losing out in popularity. You can attend some churches for thirty years and not hear a peep about Hell. People are ashamed of this merciless idea. They are ready for something new, for what modern theologians think is a better take on Hell. They are championing the acceptance of what they consider to be a more merciful form of Gehenna, one that is more easily seen as being in tune with a warm and loving Jesus with outstretched arms of comfort and care.

We are being told by the new Christians to just forget what every unrefined Roman Catholic, Baptist, or Pentecostal preacher ever told you about Hell. Hell is not the polar opposite of heaven. It is just absence from God. The fires of Hell are figurative, and so is the actual suffering experienced. They are not really real. The suffering experienced in hell is just suffering in the mind (in the spirit mind) of a deceased unbeliever. As he passed into eternity, his body died while his spirit (and therefore consciousness) lived on, but now his soul was separated from God into the “blackness of darkness” of the absence of the Almighty (Jude 1:13).

It is as if Christians today are embarrassed about biblical hell.
Thank you I'm reading this again.

@Tristan W -- maybe it's more that it's not a popular subject to preach on. People want 'feel good' sermons. And those preachers are working right into satan's hand unfortunately. Satan wants as many people to share in his final agony as possible.

People don't believe that God would be that 'mean' -- We are told that God is a Loving heavenly Father. That He'd Never send someone to hell and even if He did -- Our concept of fire and brimstone is that it Does eventually go out. And nothing would keep on for ever and ever and ever. It simply doesn't make human sense. But it doesn't Have to make sense to be real and ever lasting.

to be on Safe side -- why don't we accept the horrible Biblical side of hell being eternal and horrible. And eternal. Because it Will be. Just like Heaven is eternal.

We Would like to think that hell is only figurative. But -- the way to Escape hell is to accept God's Way of staying Out of there and being Able to be with God in heaven for eternity.

Millions of people are already separated from God.. and they don't think it's so bad. Some have even told me, it's better to be separated from God than to follow "all those rules".
If this is all the hell there is.... no wonder some people don't care about salvation.

Yeah....The lake of fire sounds merciful. Did you note the subtle sarcasm there?
I'm all in with God here and what he says. I accept the truth that hell will be eternal torments, weeping and gnashing of teeth, unquenchable fire. I need this side of the equation a bit more as I am highly focused on what he has done for me in this lifetime but this gives me more fear and adoration for what God is saving me from in all eternity. I thank you Lord for the place you have prepared for me and for the place you have kept me out of. HALLELUJAH!

Those exact thoughts have gone thru my brain. Rationalizing God. But God's love lifted me up from this evil, selfish thinking. Bless you Lord Jesus!!!!

Thats because God is being merciful in this season of Grace giving them time to repent and turn to Him.
They have no clue what it is like being separated from Hod, they only think they do because of His Mercy and Grace which is running out with every breath they take.

Blessings

People have simply not applied their minds to an environment where your eternal company are those who cannot and do not want to repent. There are so many sweet and innocent things in this world that make it a paradise for the wicked. Take them away and you have hell.

We just need to be clear that God does not torture. Torture is wicked. God is not wicked. God is good, that is why we give thanks Psalm 136:1. People weep and gnash their teeth because they look up and see they are cast out Luke 13:28.

We must fear God because 1. He is God (He can annihilate us) and 2. We don't want to be apart from Him. If we teach fear of God due to His ''wicked'' side that will torture Hell-bound victims, we miss-represent Him.

That's only the doormat at the gates of hell, my friend
