Should I Always Forgive Everyone in Every Way?

Brother Spockrates feel guilty or something?? LOL My words where not addressed to you, lol HOWEVER!!! Now that you mentioned it!! LOL If a person does not forgive in every way, then that person holds unforgivness in there heart, and if they hold unforgivness in there heart, then that heart becomes an unbelieving heart! For how can a person say they believe Jesus has forgiven them of all sin, if they hold sin against another?? HOW??

For the new creature born of God, is also born of love, and love holds no record of ANY WRONG!!!( 1 cor 13:5) And since Jesus himself tells us in 1 john 4:17-19 love is perfected with us! Unforgiveness, in any way shape or form, leads to unbelief, for what do we have in Christ Jesus if we first do not both have his love and abide in his love??( 1 cor 13:1) How can i say this as being true one may ask??

Because i had unforgivness to my earthy father for 8 years after Jesus saved me,he answered me in his abiding grace!! He cannot go against his own word!Around the second year of the Lord in me,he dealt much with me on how to forgive, and why,and how one can always forgive another. I understand many will not agree with my stand on this, and that is cool! I understand!! Because for 8 tough years I was among the same!( mark 11:23-26) I do not speak for others here.but my first mountain was unforgivness!! My new nature came with lessons as my Jesus taught me!( 1 john 2:27)

I stopped, with my unbelief his promises to me,it was all my fault!!Not others fault as i wished to look at it through a mirror very darkly!( 1 cor 13:9-13) Forgiveness can not be seperate from love! Forgiveness give us hope through love!( rom 14:13) I just ran out of excuses for myself is all brothers and sisters,I hope you will to!To not forgive another, places no burden on the one who is dead, and if they are alive, they may indeed suffer because of your unforgivenes, but so will you! I KNOW! I did suffer!

You cannot take salvation and look to change its parts, one can believe in Jesus and have unforgivness in there heart towards another??? What is salvation,if one who believes they receive this, not give it as well? I know many have gone through so very tough situations!! Abused in every way perhaps! So was our Jesus folks! What did he say on the cross?? Father FORGIVE them for they know not what they do. Do we? Do we know what we are doing to our self by not forgiving? I found out!! Hope you do not have to!

You can debate this all you wish to folks,i have said my peace on this, just do not think for one second salvation in Jesus leaves out forgiveness! It is part of not only being saved, but staying saved to me!( matt 13:18-23) one can never be saved until one gets to verse 23! Salvation always bears fruit! This I think is the toughest i have been on any one subject! I know how hard it is! And i know how much pain I suffered because only Jesus in me could ever remove this mountain of my unforgiveness! I am, and stay so very thankful to Jesus forever because for me this was the hardest lesson i ever had to learn in my 61 years of life! Blessing all

Not debating, my friend. Seeking truth, and asking. Not speaking of forgiving with one's heart, only. Speaking of forgiving with one's actions.

I think it might be true that one should always forgive with one's heart, but only sometimes forgive with one's actions. Don't you?

if no action,no fruit? Meaning to forgive is not the same to me as forgiving brother. For if Jesus forgave with only his heart, then why was he on the tree in the first place? No action, no real belief then to me bro. I know this is tough!! But faith without works is?? yep dead bro.( James 2:19-26) Was it enough for Abraham to believe God without action? Abraham was not called a friend of God because he said he believed, but rather by what he showed because of his belief! verse 24-26!!) Faith means nothing without action associated by that faith to me bro.

Yes, genuine faith results in corresponding action.

16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

(James 2)

And this action is love, I think. For genuine love must be both compassion and action. I guess, then James is saying, "Faith without love is good for nothing."

And John seems to say compassion without action is also good for nothing:

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

(1 John 3:18)

So what do you think, my friend? Is forgiveness love? Is it compassion and action?

Of Course good brother!! Of course! Love is the engine to all other actions taken in ones life. And giving is also!! ( 1 cor 9:7-15!!) Giving what we have already received. So in all areas of our life, action is always associated with what one does receive from our Jesus brother! God loves a cheerful giver, because Jesus loved so much HE GAVE!!! himself for us!! If that is not true love, then I really do not understand love!! LOL We give forgiveness not because someone has earned it,but because we in Christ have received it,and we sure did not deserve it!

I know it is hard brother!( psalm 103:11-17!!) I remember Holy Spirit speaking so strong to my heart, saying,"I have placed your sin as far as the east is from the west, AND!! I remember them no more, this do in remembrance of me my son,( 1 cor 11:24)take there sins against you, and place them, where i have placed yours! For the nature of LOVE is mine, and the nature of my children is my love as well!" For I created you to both learn from my love,so that you will always be able to give my love!" In this brother Spockrates we begin to understand just what is the breadth, and length and height and yes brother DEPTH!( eph 3:17-19) The Lord himself greatly helped both my mind and my heart towards others who have hurt me,and we know he always wants to help his children who BELIEVE( in action as well!James 1:22) and remain thankful for being called his disciples!( john 13:34-35) Blessing always!

Yes, I think you might be right. So what does one do to forgive? Let's say a pastor invites a homeless man to spend the night in his church. He feeds the man and bids him goodnight.

But while the pastor slept, the homeless man stole his computer and left. The pastor is then awaken by his doorbell ringing. At the door is a police officer and the homeless man. The police officer asks the pastor if the computer in the man's possession is stolen. If it is, he says, he will arrest the homeless man.

What would the pastor do to forgive the thief?

Spockrates, What do YOU think he should do?

Take back the computer and recite to the homeless man Psalm 91:11! hehe And not press changes. What we have is not ours,we are just stewards of it bro hehe I would then say I forgive you,go and sin no more.Since this was good enough for Jesus in john8:11 this is good enough for me bro,I keep my peace and offer that to someone who really needs it, the homeless man. Can you imagine the police officer eyes at this point?? LOL perhaps he is unsaved as well, now Jesus heals two men at once!! how great is that!! lol You see brother how Jesus changes the mindset of man??( col 3:2-4!!)

I'd tell the officer it was a gift. I'd then say to the thief, "You left in such a hurry you forgot this," and give him a tablet computer, too. When the officer leaves, and the thief in tears asks why I did this, I'd say, "God has done infinitely more to forgive me. How can I do any less to forgive you? Take these computers. Sell them. Use the money to get back on your feet, again. And someday--soon I hope--you will see it in your heart to forgive, as you have been forgiven."

Yes, not pressing charges is something you could certainly do. But you will have a hard time convincing others, my friend! Those who say they can forgive and still punish are not easily persuaded they might be mistaken. But if we have found the truth, would we care what the rest if the world thinks?

I keep thinking about Paul's words:

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

(Colossians 3)

And I think to myself, "Self, forgiving is compassion. It is love. And love is nothing unless it is also action."

Thank God that's how Jesus forgave me! He didn't condemn me to hell with peace in his heart and a smile on his face! He saved me from hell. He didn't just do away with hard feelings. He did away with the punishment I deserved.

And I must, "forgive as the Lord forgave" me.

Of course you are right Spockrates!! But then again I am not looking to convince anyone of anything,I am only being established in my own belief. And if established, then action does indeed take place. hehe Jesus never pushed the people, except those scribes who were pushing others in there self righteousness,he presented who he was,( love by nature)then showed them who he truly is!!( before Abraham was born I AM!! John 8:58!) That is how we are to become established to me bro! Deeds, then words! For it is the action of any belief which defines ones faith in just who we really do believe in to me bro. For then our words have much greater power for now we have witnesses!!All those who we speak to! Bear witness to Jesus in us!

True. Actions show better what we think than words. In fact, one who says one thing but does another--well, the word we use to describe her is hypocrite.

But what about the person we've wronged who we ask to forgive us? What do we think when she says, "I forgive you, but I don't trust you. Our relationship is over"? Can she really forgive, yet never trust? Can she be forgiving if she refuses to reconcile with us?

I think James and Strypes might be right, when they say she can forgive but end a relationship. I suppose that is one way to forgive. But it's not the only way--not the best way.

So we really can't accuse the one who forgives but does not reconcile of not forgiving. She has forgiven, but only with her emotions. She has forgiven partially, but her actions are still unforgiving, I think. What do you think? Is trusting and reconciling one way of forgiving?

If you offer reconciliation and it is not received by another, is this your fault?? I have let it go,and have showed, and told them I am truly sorry for my action, this has happened to me as well! If they do not wish to receive this truth, what then can I do about it? Can any more of my own works convince them I really am sorry? No brother they cannot, they must choose to believe me! I am dealing with another brother right now outside of this chat Site who believes i judged him to harshly upon a matter which we have talked about in our past.

He believes the reason for my error, is my judgement upon him, rather then as a 42 year old man to become accountable to others. I can sin but you cannot,I can speak evil of others, but you cannot, and if you judge me,you are wrong in doing so.But we all know that whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap back as well! He wonders why no one wants to speak to him any longer, and instead of blaming the source himself,he chooses to blame everyone who checks him! So I like james and strypes did end my speaking to him! ( matt 7:6)!

When Jesus said to follow, he did not have a rope around anyone neck to make them follow, that is up to each of us to do! It is called free will,to which some here do not believe we have.I sure do believe we have this! I have proven this time and time again to not only myself but to others. Being offered a large sum of money to preach for example,i would not take it! That was up to me to decide! Our Church today had a wonderful teaching, and I was most honored through our Jesus to give this lesson! I will write this later today on the sermon blog here.It is called MY value in Christ Jesus! Do I really have any value? Do others believe i should have any to start with? Am I doing enough for the Kingdom of God to expect to have any value in Christ Jesus?

Jesus in me covers all these things through his Word! Great fear comes to most believers because they do not believe they themselves through our Jesus have any value,The WORD proves them all wrong! I was so very pleased by so many who came to the front to receive, and be prayed for,to clear there mind of doubt in this area! For fear brings doubt, and doubt results in unbelief! And unbelief is HATED by God!( heb 3:12-19!!!) To the Lord unbelief is evil! verse 19 So we SEE that they were not able to enter because of unbelief! Sorry did not mean to go off subject a bit bro.

Trust is very hard to have in people! I concur! It is much like ( Acts 5:38-39!!) We are to be led by Holy Spirit in both our words and our actions.( rom 8:14-15) if others do not choose this, there is nothing i can do for them. I will do my best through our Lord to encourage them, and if they get mad at me for doing this, then I will remember( Proverbs 25:17 LOL!!) And let them go,for love does not always hold onto things, love also is free to let go of,not because you want to,but because Jesus is stronger then we are,and like the prodigal Son,we all must learn truth, and grace( john 1:14) through love for ourselves!( luke 15:11-32!) So that we then can learn to always GIVE this! Blessing all!

Yes. So I think it is important to ask what someone means when she says she forgives you of I. It's equally vital for you and I to explain to the forgiven what we mean when we say we forgive.

So let's think more deeply about what we mean, my friend. I want to be sure we are thinking correctly, and I sincerely hope someone will correct us if we are not.

It seems to me that if forgiveness is not always only something we think but sometimes something we think and do, then this might be true:
1. Forgiveness is love
2. Forgiveness is sometimes conditional

Consider this example:

[On the cross,] Jesus said, "Father, forgive them. For they don't know what they are doing."

(Luke 23:34)

The condition, here appears to be ignorance. If one has no idea she is doing wrong, we should forgive with our actions.

Consider this example, too, where Jesus also said:

3 “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

(Luke 17)

Here, the condition for forgiving seems to be repentance. The one to be forgiven must truly repent, first, before we forgive with our actions.

Do you think my guess is correct? Are acts of forgiving a kind of conditional love?

Point 1 we see eye to eye on brother! Point 2 we do not LOL I went to a CVS drug store the other day,I bought something that ended up being exactly $2.00 I gave him a $20.00 dollar bill, he got a phone call, and said please wait sir while i answer the phone.

First of all a customer is more important then a phone call LOl but that is besides the point, anyway when he came back to me, he handed me 8.00 dollars back, instead of $18.00 dollars back.I asked um, being shy as i am LOL, did you cheat me on purpose, or by accident sir? What do you mean he replied?

I gave you a 20 dollar bill and should have received 18 dollars back. i was nice about this up to this point as well LOl Not loud! No sir you gave me a ten. Anger now was present,i was being told I was telling a lie! While for some they would have walked away thinking maybe perhaps he was right,I am most watchful with my money and knew what I gave him,the Store manager was called, and did a draw check, and found out I was correct.

I looked at the man who cheated me,and asked him the same question when I statred, did you cheat me on purpose? Or did you make a mistake? he hung his head and said i made a mistake, I am sorry for the inconvience to you and the other patrons behind you sir. I replied I forgive you,may the rest of your day become more peaceful! My brother was with me and started judging the man for looking to cheat me,I said Peter I do not remember the infraction,he is forgiven. LOL My brother looked at me!! What do you mean??? I mean just what I said brother!

The only condition for us is to forgive at all times,I am without excuses in this matter anymore for myself, before this I used all kind of excuses not to forgive another for being done wrongly. Jesus forgave us with only one condition!! I look at his forgiveness the same way I look at mine, that you believe I have forgiven you! For if I say I have and show that I have not I am the barring false Witness here, and I am telling a lie! Do you know what can happen to someone who does both of these actions bro?? LOL( Acts 5:1-11) Please look at proverbs 6:16-19! So for me bro,my only condition is to forgive, not to think about whether or not I should forgive hehe! Do you agree with this bro?? And if not,I would very much like to understand why not.

Well, if someone were to ask Jesus why forgive those who crucified him, his answer would apparently be, "Because they don't know what they are doing is wrong." And if Jesus was asked why forgive someone seven times in one day, he appears to say, "Because the person repents."

But are you thinking I should forgive those who know what they are doing is wrong and refuse to stop continue doing wrong, anyway?

In Luke 17:3 Jesus says if your brother trespasses against you rebuke him and if he repents forgive him. And if he trespass against you 7 times in one day and turn to you 7 times and say I repent, then you shall forgive him.

So I don't think you should forgive all your brothers immediately if they sin against you, but first rebuke them. If they repent their sin you should forgive them, but if they don't repent I guess you don't have to forgive them.

The point to me brother Spocrates is this. Forgiveness is for your sake,so your prayers stay answered! The only person who suffers by not Forgiving is us! While true some anger can last a bit, do not let the sun go down on that anger either!! 2 reason bros. 1.Eph 4:26-28 for unforgiveness robs you! and 2!!! Luke 12:20! For unforgivness covets self! Luke 12:16-21!! That is why bro. If people look to argue with this, let them, it is not you who will suffer!! I know, i have seen, and I have witnessed to both!! lol We learn the easy way or the hard way,I choose the hard way, and suffered greatly because of it bro, don't you!

Matthew 18:22, Jesus says to forgive your brothers 490 times. I think it's easy to lose count of that, but spaced out through periods of rebukal and repentance it should usually not add up to that many times. If it does I guess you don't have to forgive them anymore and they are something else than a brother anymore.
